Beginning the Process of getting a revision and scared of being a failure again!

Recommended Posts

I am scared too. My revision is next week. I would guess most of us who are doing a revision are scared of failure. How could we not be? But it is also exciting because it does have a higher success rate and gives us a better tool with which to lose weight.

Yes very true! I think we are all scared before it happens but it has a way better success rate than the band! Let me know how your surgery goes!

Wow!!!!! I hope I have the same success. That is A LOT of weight in a short time. What's your secret? Did you have the band? I got mine out august 21st so I've had it out a little while. Enough time to gain like 10-15 pounds.... :/

Well i also had 2 strictures along the way so i had 2 weeks that i could barely get anything down at all. scale went down fast but then stalled of course when i started eating again. My real secret is not one that is really a secret. I just use myfitnesspal and track every morsal and i mean every bite. I dont go over 1k calories either or i wont lose. No rice, potatoes, bread or Pasta. It is what most people that have been successful have followed. You can do this too!

Ahhh yah I'm experiencing eating A LOT for the first time in 8 years. My appetite is crazy! Yah I like myfitnesspal. I am not eating carbs ever. Is 1k pounds a good goal? I was thinking I was going to try to not go over 800.... is it hard to do 1k?

I just started a program working towards a revision surgery from band to bypass. I'm so scared I'm going to fail again. I initially lost about 30 pounds with the band but have gained all of it back. I know I failed for lots of reasons. Basically, I can't eat a lot of dense Protein without getting majorly stuck and throwing up, when I do just a little I never feel satisfied, sometimes I can eat everything under the sun, and I have general issues with overeating. I'm going to a counselor to help me find coping mechanisms that don't involve food, so that's definitely something different than when I had the lapband. I also didn't loose very much or very fast with the lapbad, so it was hard to stay motivated to keep dieting. I'm committed to making life changes with the bypass, but I'm so nervous that I'll just fail again. I don't even want to tell anyone about this surgery until I'm actually successful. It's too embarrassing to fail twice! Anyone else have these thoughts?

I had my band for 4 years. Lost 80 pounds, but it slipped and had to have it removed Aug 10th. I wanted to have my revision in one surgery, but my insurance company didn't want to pay for that, so instead they are paying for 2 surgeries, oh well its their dime. It would have been nice to have it done all at once for less time off, less recovery time, less risk...etc l. The pain of the removal was pretty intense at the port site, and the most pain I had was the scar tissue that he removed that the band had made.

My surgeon made me wait for 3 months and I am scheduled for my revision Nov 30th. I am hoping the pain won't be as severe as the removal was.

When banded it was difficult to eat healthier foods. I was unable to eat citrus, hard veggies, salad would get stuck often, shrimp, and no breads, chips, or pastas. meat would also get stuck. I know what you dealt with. I think everybody has the fear of failure, more so with revision. It is normal, but don't let the fear consume you or prevent you from being successful with this new chance. Follow the rules, measure and weigh your food and you will do great!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
