Arkansas Bansters!!!

Actually my bmi isn't 40, but I do have degenerative discs and high blood

pressure. I understand those are some of the criteria if your bmi isn't that

high. Mine is closer to 33, but since menopause nothing seems to help and

exercise is horribly painful except walking - slowly!

I had Federal BC/BS so I don't know about the medicare. I work in a hospital and a few of the nurses I know, use to work at Baptist and they said he was there favorite doctor. They said he is always so careful with his patients. My GYN even said he is the doctor she would trust for sgy. She is not associated with Baptist. I was really happy with them. I hope everything goes well for you.

I am going to Dr. Luttrell and am so far very pleased with him and his staff. I have Federal BCBS and also work in a hospital but I don't know anybody who has had the surgery. All his staff worked quickly to get me scheduled, all told it took about 3 days. I am really glad to read all these posts from Arkansas. I also heard Dr. Baker was good.

HELLO EVERYONE!!! I am researching the lapband and Dr Lutrell. I am 5'3 and weigh 270. I am going to a consultation and DR. appt this week. My biggest concern is I am a huge Pasta person. Down side is I hate veggies except corn, Beans, and peas. So I see a hard road ahead of me. IF anyone has advice please email me.

hey all, i will re introduce myself. my name is tabatha. i live in jacksonville. i'm 26 had lap band 10-2007 haven't lost a lot, but had medical issues this year.

i'm a self pay patient and used dr. wellborn. i love him.

as for Pasta, you will probably find after surgery that it is not worth the effort to eat. your cravings go away. i used to have Pasta with every dinner (lipton noodles, rice, pasta salad, etc.) now i rarely cook it. it is just too hard to eat. this includes spaghetti. i can only eat that whenever i am loose. as for veggies, i don't like several, but i eat the ones that i do so it is fine.

well I have my first physical in 2 years tomorrow then I am going to the seminar that Dr. welbourn has tuesday evening, then I will go to the seminar that Dr. Lutrell has on wednesday afternoon. One of my main question is from the day you start the paperwork with the doctors how long until you actually have the surgery. 1 week 1 month 1 year?

i like unjury Protein, ONLY. i cannot stand the other stuff. it is good. tastes just like chocolate milk.

when i started my paperwork with dr. wellborn i was banded a month later. i'm a self pay. it took no time. i had already decided to use him before i went to the seminar. actually the seminar was the week before my surgery :tongue_smilie:.

he is great, but i hear great things about lutrell and baker.

all i know is make sure you do your research, i have heard there is a doctor in arkansas doing bands, that has been banned from baptist and uams hospital due to his large amounts of malpractice. he/she therefore HAS to do their surgery in a surgery center. lot's of people are having problems with said doctor. i do not know their name, this is all i know. i got this information from a pretty reliable source though.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
