Hello, before I had my gastric sleeve my liver enzymes and ultrasound were normal. I do not have a gallbladder and had that removed many years ago. I do not drink alcohol. I do not eat a ton of fat. However, it's been 4 months post op and my liver enzymes are elevated. I am very scared. I do take tylenol. since my surgery December 4th I have lost 52 pounds. My protein is around 80 per day and my carbohydrate levels are around 10 per day. I have read that little carbohydrates can cause liver enzymes to go up as well as very low calorie diets. Just wondering if anyone else has had this issue that also does not have a gall bladder. Thank you in advance

I know this wasn't directed at me, but the original post was from six years ago, so not sure if the person is still active on the board or not. But I just wanted to say that high liver enzymes are not uncommon after bariatric surgery. Rapid weight loss can be tough on livers. My enzymes were high for the first year or so - after that, they went back down to normal. My PCP at the time didn't know this and thought I had "fatty liver" - but I checked around on the internet and on bariatric boards and found that this is actually fairly common. And mine DID go back to normal once my weight loss slowed down (she had them checked again at that point --- normal).

Thank you @catwoman7. Puts me more at ease. My father died of cirrhosis in 2014 so I couldnt even sleep last night. My pcp ordered more blood tests and an ultrasound. Hoping its nothing serious and can be resolved.

I haven’t had my second set of bloodwork results yet, but when I did my first ones (about 3.5/4 months post-op), my liver enzyme values were really high. The clinic wasn’t the least bit worried. They told me that with the sleeve, the first bloodwork typically has really weird liver values but it usually levels off after the first few months.
