Surgery date: 2/24/15. Post-op glucose readings fair, in hospital. First day full liquid diet, 177, 259, 261 next a.m., 184 (fasting). Needless to say, I am back on insulin. Total carbs that day: 21 grams; protein: 51 grams, total calories: 208, total Fluid intake: 78 oz. I am very depressed. The reason for the surgery was to get off insulin and other meds. I understand that it is soon, but I wanted to be one of those people that get out of the hospital without meds/ insulin. Well that is the story of my life. Anyhoo, doc did say not to lose hope as with weight loss it may improve. I hope so but so far...not my luck. Anyone else have the same issue and actually did get some meds reduced and insulin kept at bay? Please let me know, I am really feeling stupid for getting this surgery right now....

Slow your roll...You are just beginning this process. Heath issues will improve as you go. I'm wondering where you got the Idea that changes will happen so quickly?

My doc told me 90% of his patients do so before leaving the hospital...figures I'd be in the 10%!

My husband is a type 1 diabetic and whenever he is sick, his numbers shoot way up. It could just be your liver kicking out more glucose in response to the surgery.

Had my surgery 2/25. So far my readings have all been below 150 and dropping. I read 133 today, so I took a half dose. I think it takes a few weeks for your body to adjust. Hang in there

@Rhonda137....... that is not necessarily true. It depends on how much insulin you were taking before and everyone's endocrine system is different. Before surgery I took 6 bottles of N and 4 bottles of R. now the week after surgery when i was on the clear liquid diet, I drank liquid Protein and broth and SF popsickles and took NO insulin. Once I started back on soft foods......i was back on insulin. Now I am down 85 lbs and still taking insulin.....3 bottles of N and 1 bottle of R. Maybe when I hit my goal weight I wont have to take any. IDK!! Please monitor your readings closely I have bottomed out so many times over the past 4 months thats its unreal!!! Good luck to you!!!!

It takes time for your body to adjust. I'm taking half the insulin I used to take but the weight loss has been slow but its steady. I'm still taking other meds as well and probably will have to continue but you need to be patient. plus when I'm sick my BS levels rocket...also after surgery, they wouldn't go down either. Everyone is different....

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
