Perfectly Imperfect: Ashley's VSG Story

Recommended Posts

Ahhhh! I'm going crazy! I'm so tired of drinking my protein! I want eggs or chicken or jerkey or bacon or SOMETHING. So tired of sweet stuff.

Just gonna keep focusing on getting in my Water so I can not be dehydrated. And get in calories from yogurt, pudding, Soup.

I really need something that needs to be chewed!

Gonna keep on though. I want my tummy to heal right.

Long overdue update!

I'm around 3.5 post op now, and once I was able to start regular foods I felt so much better! I did end up on the doctors office once and received IV fluids and Vitamins. Getting Water in is much easier now, but I'm still hitting my Water goals the way I should.

I am now down 93lbs as of today. 3.5 months out. AMAZING!

I have great restriction. I listen to my stomach and stop when I get my full feeling. I haven' thrown up since I was able to start regular food.

Here's a new pic of me.

Your story sounds very very similar to mine. I am 16 days out from surgery. I hope I do as well as you! :)

At first I started out eating low carb, but found I wasn't happy doing that. So I've started eating carbs as well and I feel like a normal human.

For Breakfast I may have a Fiber One Bar, yopa Greek yogurt with granola topping, 3 pieces of bacon, or Protein oatmeal. (I've had other things but those are my staples)

lunch I'll have part of a non breaded chicken breast. Or steak...I usually stick to a Protein source for lunch. Same for dinner.

For a snack I'll eat some sort of fruit. Grapes, watermelon, kiwi. I've also had crackers or beef Jerky.

I've also eaten things that weren't so great for me. I've had French fries, a hamburger, fried chicken tenders, ice cream, sno cone.

I've not been perfect. But I don't over indulge. I'm only able to eat a few bites of it and then I feel full. I am able to eat bread (toast, rolls, buns) without ill affect. But eggs, milk, and tortillas are a no-no for me. (Although I haven't tried eggs or milk since the first month. They could be ok now)

I don't do Protein shakes. Or Protein Bars.

Thank you so much that really helps. I HATE the Protein shakes... Glad to know you can be successful without them. Do you use my fitness pal or something similar to track your meals? Sorry for so many questions I just need this surgery to be a success and want to use the tool as much as possible. I have done all my pre op stuff and am just waiting for my insurance approval. The wait is driving me CRAZY!!!!

I use My Fitness Pal for tracking my weight only. I don't track what I eat in any form besides in my head. I'm conscious of what I've eaten through out the day and make my choices based off that. "I probably shouldn't eat this because I had XYZ earlier" If that makes sense. I don't think that tracking everything I eat is something that I could do long term. I want to make this a regular part of my life and I don't want to obsess over everything tiny thing I eat.

I've come to the conclusion that I can only eat a small amount and that I need to make those tiny little meals count.

I had a Protein shake that I enjoyed pre-op but didn't like anymore postop because I couldn't stand milk.. but I haven't tried milk for a while. So who knows.. it could be ok now.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
