Impatiently waiting...June sleevers?

Recommended Posts

I have just started my journey but hoping if I get all my requirements done quickly, then I will be able to have mine done in June. It may not happen though. I called my surgeon today and they have sent the referrals to the doc offices that I need to see and they contact me. I'm nervous but ready.

I met with the surgeon today. He said if all goes well, I could be looking at May or June for my surgery but surely it cannot be that easy. I have a 90 day waiting period for my insurance. Does anyone know if you just need to go to the doctor for three consecutive months, even for non-weight issues? Because, at every appointment the doctor certainly takes my weight, talks about my high blood pressure, and asks what I'm doing to change it. So, I am hoping that this is the case. If so, I will be a May or June sleever too!

Be aware of any family history of blood clots. My surgeon asked if anyone in my family has had a problem with thrombosis, and I recalled that two siblings have had blood clots after commercial flights. It was enough for my doc to order an extra blood test to check for a common inherited trait called factor V leiden, and sure enough I've got it. It's pretty common among European Americans, 3-8% of the population carry it, but it means that they'll take extra steps to be sure I don't have a pulmonary embolism after surgery.

Always better to know before than to deal with complications later.

I would call your insurance provider and find out what their requirements are. My insurance requires me to do a six-month doctor supervised weight loss program. Your insurance provider should be able to answer all of your questions you have. Good luck on your journey! :-)

I have Factor V Leidens. I found out when I had a heart attack at 26. Very rare for heart attack. I am getting sleeved June 8th. I get my protime checked often and will be going on a Lovenox Bridge for surgery. I would see about getting into an appointment with a Hematologist. Either before or after.

I am self paying...my insurance doesn't cover it. Ugggg!! Im having my surgery June 2nd.

It is to bad that your insurance is so naive that they don't realize they will save money when you are lighter and healthier. But congrats on being a "June Sleever" Mine will probably be at the end of the month due to family obligations. Welcome.

I am self pay as well. It is so frustrating when you know it is going to save them money in the end.

Hi my name is Ashley and I live in Colorado Springs CO. I have tricare, so I have been receiving care at Evans Army Hospital. I started my journey when I was having my gallbladder out in December 2014 by the surgeon Dr. Wilcox. I have been unhappy about my weight and being diagnosed with PCOS. I saw a book in his consult room that told about bariatric surgery. I was sold even before he came into the room. We discussed it at length and he told me he was the one who performs those surgeries. He invited me to come to the next months info session to feel it out. I was absolutely sold!!!! Right now im waiting on my blood test results to come back on my Vitamin D levels. 4 weeks ago I was tested and I was dangerously low, so I was pushed back a month on getting my surgery. I have to wait until 4/30/15 to see the nutritionist about my levels, so excruciating!!! There is about a month waiting period once you have seen the surgeon and when you have surgery. So hopefully May/June sleeve surgery is on the horizon.

I am so freaked out about the endoscopy. Like way more than the actual surgery.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
