I am pre-op & I am curious as to if I will be able to ever eat my favorite foods again? I love Peanut Butter, sweet & sour chicken, sushi, & chicken donburi. Both of course have rice & sugar. I understand that for the first several months those are a no go, but will I ever be able to eat carbs & other things I enjoy?

I eat Peanut Butter daily. I have eaten rice a few times and had sweets a time or two. However, sweets tend to make me sick now, so I don't really want them anymore. Rice is just not important enough for me to bother with. But overall, I think that you will be able to eat those things again, just much smaller quantities and not as often.

Absolutely. I'm 3 months post op and I had Peanut Butter on saltines last night. Just two, but that was more than enough for my evening snack. I can pretty much eat everything I've tried so far, but I haven't ventured to high carb foods like Pasta, bread (unless it's well toasted light bread), pizza crust etc. I've had Outback steak, sweet and sour shrimp, Olive Garden Soups etc. I do not feel deprived. I'm just staying away from the high carb foods so I'm sure to get enough Protein. I just feel like the high carb foods would form a ball in my small stomach and stick there. I'm not willing to risk it yet.

All of the foods on your list make me barf, lol. My sleeve hates sugars and fats, and is largely intolerant of more than maybe a bite or two. That being said...the vast majority of people do not have any issues with eating those foods a few months after surgery. I think the trick is to just eat small amounts and eat slowly and you should be fine. :)

I may not want to eat them, but part of my hesitant issue revolve around me not being able to eat my favorites. I can handle eating smaller portions of them though, lol.

you will find your tastes will change also - what once was your favorite may not be your favorite after surgery

You will be able to eat almost anything by the end of your 1st year post-op.

At 6 months, I could eat most things. But fibrous vegetables like lettuce were still tough, as well as chicken and eggs and whole wheat bread. Processed and sugary foods had never been a problem to eat. It was the healthy stuff that Frankensleeve objected to. :angry:

At 1 year, my ability to eat anything had returned. My tastes had changed by then, but that's anther story. :P

I don't eat PB but I do eat almond butter. I used to use it to hide my crush Vitamins. I've had Indian food. It came with basmati rice. I ate a little then realized I could enjoy it without the rice. I have had a bit of brown rice. I don't avoid carbs but if I am going to have them I prefer to have complex carbs as opposed to simple, usually processed white carbs.

I pretty much eat everything I ate pre-surgery but in much smaller portions.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

        I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.
