2 Years of Weight Document History

Recommended Posts

Okay, so I am in the final stretch for my surgery (need to update my profile here because I switch from bypass to sleeve!) and when I was setting up my appointments needed before I put it into insurance one of the requirements my surgeons office gave me was 2 year weight document history.

Is this absolutely required and will having only 18 months hinder my insurance accepting it?

My BMI is over 55 and I have several health problems that could benefit out of surgery so I am hoping all those combined that 18 months will work. I havnt even been seeing my doctor for 2 years that's why I have only 18.

I'm so worried I will have to wait till 24 months after started this journey November 2013. Feb-August 2013 I didnt get consecutive visits because I had unexplained severe swelling making me unable to walk let alone make consistent visits without a car.

Of course my doctor has all of that information too, and the struggles of trying to find out whats wrong and all the lab results and x rays and mris from urgent care, him, and the ER so maybe that will help.

Okay sorry for rambling its early Lol

Thanks so much!

At least for Aetna, I only needed to show one weight record for each year. So I gave my physical notes from those two years. Two pieces of paper. As long as you have had at least one visit each year during the time you've been seeing your doctor you might be ok, but check your insurance requirements and talk to your surgical coordinator.

If you've ever done Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, Nutrisystem, Metabolic etc., you can call them and they can give you your history. I was pleasantly surprised when everyone I called either sent me the info in email or gave it to me on the phone. I just created a list with dates, starting weight, ending weight and then how much I gained between weight loss efforts. I'm not sure if my doctor's office had to submit it to Aetna, but they had the last 5 years if needed.

So if you're like many of us who have tried a lot of different diets, give them a call. I found all the 800 numbers on the internet.

Document your weights, etc, in a simple, one-page cover letter and make sure your surgeon's office submits it - maybe bullet-points with co-morbidities, etc -- make it easy and overpowering for them -- good luck!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
