Breaking the 50/300 barrier

Recommended Posts

Less than two months out from my sleeve gastrectomy surgery, and yesterday, at the gym I weighed myself and saw that not only have I lost 50 lbs, but I am below 300lbs for the first time in my adult life!

The last few days have been the first times that people have started saying, "Hey man, you losing some weight?" or "Bob, you been working out?" It took 50 lbs for people to start noticing, but now the weight loss is finally making a difference. None of my clothes fit: I wore the tux from my wedding (8 years ago) to an event the other night, and it was FALLING off. I've bought some second-hand clothes to get me through the work weeks without spending a million bucks.

I think the only real down sides so far have been (awful) Constipation alternating with (not quite as awful, but still pretty bad) diarrhea, and also I seem to wake up at 5am every morning no matter what time I go to bed.

But it seems like I'm headed down the right path. Please wish me continued good luck!

Definitely headed down the right path, Dude!! I was the same way...it took me to lose a 50 lbs. or so just for me to even notice myself!! And for God's sake, Bob...please don't make the same mistake I did!! I got so excited that I lost some weight, I went and bought all these new clothes in my new size, just to have to give them all up and buy them all over again in a month or so!!!

As far as the Constipation and diarrhea, it does get better as your actual diet and eating habits become more regular...just be sure to keep up with the Fluid intake, since that helps both situations. A word of caution, though...the flatulence part doesn't go away!! A small price to pay, though!!

Stay tuned, my man...it just keeps getting better!!!

Wish you the best success, Bob!!!

This was very encouraging, especially for someone still on the up side of the hill ( pre surgery, almost ready). Congratulations!

I feel everything you said exactly. On my day of breaking the 300 barrier since, around 1998 or so, i was elated. everything you said is correct my clothes suddenly stopped fitting, thankfully we have no need to wear anything special in work, so i wear all my pants have elastic waists like workout pants , sweats etc. I for fun put on a dress shirt i used to wear that i used to have to wear a collar extender button on just to fit my 23 inch neck and it fits me like a tarp, just huge on me now. lol it is an amazing journey so far, keep it up man.

So excited for you! It's an amazing journey. Sometimes I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror, and I'm looking at my 20-year-old self. At least until I get a closer look...

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
