Hungry post op?

Recommended Posts

Hello

I am 6 days away from surgery...and freaking out a little

My BMI is 31 so I keep asking ...do I really need to do this?

I have been reading how hungry people are post op and was wondering who had this experience?

I have been on a liquid (optifast) diet for a week now and finding I am not very hungry at all except at night which im pretty sure is head hunger as I miss eating dinner with my family

Does doing this diet pre op help with hunger post op? I thought you were suppose to not be hungry after the op?

My biggest fear is that I will have the surgery and feel like I am on a permenant diet!!!!!

I did not feel hungry the 2 weeks following surgery. I WANTED to eat, just out of habit and boredom. But I never had head hunger or that feeling of an empty stomach.

I eat because I know I'm supposed to....but could easily not eat and be content. But I do still suffer from the 8pm -11pm "I want something to snack on" syndrome. And it's usually salty or high sugar. I've lost 43 pounds in 12 weeks, but I know it could have been more if I didn't "cheat" every couple of days and have a cookie or handful of pretzel.

So, like before surgery, the long term success of surgery is directly proportional to your ability to create a new eating pattern AND find new activities to avoid old eating habits.

I am six months post sleeve and I am constantly hungry! I have only lost 30 pounds since my surgery. I snack all the time and I don't know what to do. I was never like this before my surgery. Is anyone else having this issue? And will it ever go away?

I woke up from surgery hungry, lol. They said it was gas and acid reflux but now at 5 weeks I'm still hungry all the time. Maybe it's head hunger? I'm not sure. My stomach does gurgle for food every hour or so.

I am constantly hungry and eat all the time. And my stomach gurgles and makes noise all the time. Does anyone know if this is normal or not? And will I ever stop being hungry all the time?

I'm 8 months out. I experience hunger and have all along.

You learn to tell the difference between head hunger and real hunger, and yeah, I do still have real hunger. I keep a ziploc baggie of grape tomatoes in my purse and pop a couple in my mouth when hunger hits.

I felt hunger for the first couple months but now I'm 6 months out and not so much! I do have bad acid reflux which makes me feel hungry! I generally try to eat something every couple hours to keep that at bay! I've lost 95 lbs since surgery!

I keep pretzels with me almost all the time. I know that's not the best thing to eat but it's convenient, easy on my stomach, and keeps in any weather. I don't like vegetables; some fruits are ok but they contain a lot of sugar. And I know I don't drink enough Water but it just doesn't seem to sit well in my stomach. I don't think only 30 pounds is worth the surgery and all I'm going through, and I honestly don't think I'm going to loose anymore weight at this rate. :-(

Thank you all for your comments...except for the last two

Especially the person who called me grim

My surgery is tomorrow so I guess I will find out for myself

Due to the few negative comments I will be logging off from this forum

I don't know what that has to do with my hunger issues, but I got the surgery because I didn't want to end up with all of the health issues all of the women in my family has had due to weight. I have always exercised and watched what I ate, but the weight would never budge. And I have never felt hungry like I do now. Who knows, maybe it will eventually subside.

The "grim girl" was aimed at me. But I'm not sure why, lol. But I don't think it was meant in a bad way. Best of luck on your surgery and new journey! :-)

Sorry - im confused.

The only reason i said to the initial post was to look at why they were having surgery was because they said they wondered if they really needed it and didnt want to feel on a perm diet.... just thought if they went back to their initial reason that would help them confirm they want the surgery.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
