Constipation?

Recommended Posts

I know they say that Constipation is something that goes along with gastric bypass surgery.

I have to take three Colace capsules a day and also use Benefiber just to keep from getting too "stopped up".

Does this ever go away? I had my surgery on 9/30/14. I still can't get in enough Protein plus add veggies to my diet. Mostly it's just Protein right now.

I had RNY 2/28/13, lost 136 lbs and have struggled with Constipation. I had a second hernia repair 4 weeks ago and was told I can't be constipated. It will undo the repair. I now take two scoops of benefiber (costco brand) with coffee in the morning, one scoop in the evening and 4 colace. I drink about 100 ounces of Fluid and eat as much Fiber as I can. (Usually one slice of whole wheat fiber filled bread, berries, a clementine or apple and a salad every day). It's not easy and I still use milk of magnesia if I feel things are slow.

I am 6 weeks post op and have been miserable at times with Constipation. Just started eating prunes but they are high in carbs so have limited the number. Gotta start some supplements with Fiber or something other that looking for dynamite!

Well, I never had problem with Constipation, so I must be doing something right.

First off, I am not too good with Water, I do drink but not as much as I should, so it can't be that.

However I make sure I start my day with fruits, every single day, and I do not eat anything else till mid day.

Also, very important: every day you have to eat something fatty. Now I know how you feel about that and you probably think I am crazy, but trust me, it will give the necessary lubrication for you to pass stool without any pain. Also, our system can not really absorb fat, so it will just help you with your bowel movement. Remember: fat is not our enemy, but steer clear from carbs. Obviosly I am not saying to bite into a block of lard. Be sensible with your choices - nuts, olive oil on your salad/veggies, full fat sour cream/milk, ect.

Good luck!

I'm surprised the prunes didn't help with 19 grams of sugar in them. Only 5 to 6 grams of sugar give me dumping. And about eating fat, it gives me dumping too so for me that's not so good.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
