My doc said to wait til little over a month after surgery to enjoy an alcoholic beverage. And I'm getting the sleeve done. Now, I'm not a big drinker but do enjoy the occasional beverage. But any recommendations on non carbonated/low sugar cocktails? Besides an alcohol and water! Lol

Wine, generally red wine has less sugar. I used to be a fan of very sweet white wines, and I can't stomach them anymore. A dry cabernet sits much better! Also vodka with crystal light. Those are my general things. If I'm out somewhere I get wine. If I'm in a home like setting, my friends house, or a mixer, I'll have vodka with crystal light. Be prepared to be very tipsy!

Lol. Good. I never get tipsy. I'm assuming cause I was heavy. How much can u drink before getting tipsy?

Vodka, it's pretty much like a single shot (not schwastey pants we're talking but feeling nice). I drink it in a rocks glass and keep adding crystal light to it. Wine, I'd say a couple of glasses but I don't get tipsy with wine. It's more like I go from feeling fine to being completely belligerent!

I had a Bloody Mary (my first drink since my surgery) and didn't even get buzzed :( It tasted good, but I was very disappointed, lol. I don't think it's even worth drinking the empty calories now, so I won't be drinking again until I least hit goal :)

My preferred drink is Crystal Light lemonade w/ Tequila. I do drink the occasional beer or Mikes Hard Lemonade. But I drink them very carefully because of the carbonation. I usually pour them over ice to release some of the bubbles.

WOW I got a huge lecture from my doctor about the brain damage alcohol can cause while your body is in the intense weight loss mode. I was told at an absolute minimum 6 months after surgery but they'd prefer at least 8. Wonder if my doctor is being over protective or if the other doctors aren't aware of the possible risks.

Beachgurl...I'm not sure but I haven't heard of that. I Dont know why so many different docs say soooo many different things

Brain damage? I haven't heard that one yet. I wonder what the theory is there.

Does anyone know?

Nah, I went Monday for my 3 week check up and that was one of my questions. When can u have alcohol. Doc told me 6 weeks out.

Interesting, I was told 3 months for caffeine, 6 for alcohol. I for one will and can wait. I would not want to harm my sellf for anything on this planet. I have been obese for what feels like forever, 6 months alcohol free is nothing.

I also plan on not drinking until I hit goal. I am concerned about how the alcohol will affect me so I plan for that first drink to be around my family!

I don't remember the logic behind it. I just remember it was something about when your body is losing weight this rapidly the alcohol can cause neurological problems. Maybe that doesn't mean brain damage exactly but it's a heck of a lot easier to spell. I already gave up smoking to have my surgery, alcohol is a no brainer (lol) for me. It's just not worth it. I've heard a lot of people on this site talk about the alcohol setting them back on weight loss. To each his/her own i guess.

My doctor recommends 1 year, but I figured one Bloody Mary around the holidays 4 months after surgery wouldn't hurt. I probably won't drink again for another 4 months...

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
