I'm stuck too.... I'm seven weeks out and losing about a half pound a day, so I'm happy. But food is no longer a happy event :( my favorite meal is a piece of cheese wrapped in a piece of lunch meat.

Hello all,

I was never a big person on FOOD.. like i ate because i had to but I could adjust to changes, like no sweets no meats etc. When I wanted to drop weight.

So far so good, I went through all my phases as told. and since March 17th my doc released me to eating from every food group. I am the main cooker in the house and I have not felt deprived at anything. I seen some are angry or upset with the limit of bites they can take.. I probably have tested my limits with what I can and can not tolerate to the max.. The only thing I really dont care to chew is hamburger in spaghetti. Yesterday I ate ham, yams rice and potato salad and cabbage.

I hope that in time everyone will be happy and eating enjoyably.

Oh another thing I found the adverse effect for me is that my NUT stated that if drinking out of a straw doesnt cause you pain then you can, I seem to drink more Fluid be it Water, juice or milk I am able to get my fluids in. **When I say juice I drink orange or the sugar free snapples, iced tea etc*

So how is it going February peeps? I just had my 6 week checkup and labs were good. Energy level has gotten better but I still get tired very easy. It's almost time to get planting outside and I am worried whether I will be able to do it. I have lost 32 pounds from surgery day but it's the loss of inches that have been incredible! I had a jacket that was over 12 inches from being able to zip and last week I zipped it up with no issues!

I just started on regular food today but eat so little it's not that big of a deal. I haven't had much issue with eating or drinking but ground turkey seems to be a laxative for me :). One incident of eating too fast and had the " foamies" and threw up. I have been extra careful since. Still have to rely on one shake a day to get my Protein in though.

What should I pack for the hospital? My doctor said I will be in the hospital for 4-5 days. Is that right? Is just preparing me for worst case scenario?

How is everyone doing?

I hit 70 pounds gone today! So exciting! Of course, I'm counting the weight I lost during pre op.... Since surgery, I'm down about 38 pounds. Still- it's unreal to me! I'm back at my college weight! Next stop, high school weight! (25 more pounds for that)

Melanie that is awesome !

Been awhile since I posted....I have lost 57 pounds and almost 24 inches. I decided to keep track of inches when I have plateau I can maybe see inches lost..I was on a major plateau for almost 4 weeks. I have started exercising more and finally battled through it. I'm still having palpitations which Dr's not sure why since my ekg and BP are normal. Surgeon says it's from anesthesia and narcotics and my pcp says it's the dramatic changes I'm going through. My back aches are improving. Been having pt and acupunture which has help since I can't take anything for it.

It's 8 weeks this Wednesday for me. I'm allowed to eat anything I want for the most part. Are my first real salad tonight. So far it's agreed with me. I'm going to make an appointment with my NUT next week to see about varying my diet. I'm stuck eating the same basic things each day - which is boring.

I never thought I would see the day ( in this whole journey) that I would care less about food. It no longer dictates my life or tells me what to do.

So now I'm left with dealing with all these emotions and I'm having a hard time dealing with it.

I've lost approx 36 lbs since preop and inches although I haven't kept track of those official numbers.

I still have issues with going to the bathroom. I've given up thinking I'm regular. Just when I think I've got a pattern going something stops... Or I get severe pains and can't go. The pain is dibilitAting. I'm adding Fiber to my smoothies and eating grapes. Hoping to get natural fiber in.

I'm struggling with excercise. I'm a single mom so my designated gym days get cancelled sometimes depending on care for my son. I need some motivation for that-- any suggestions?

Sorry for rambling. I might sound like I'm complaining but I'm not ????

I've lessened my insulin, I've lost 36 lbs and counting, and my clothes feel better. People tell me everyday they can see a difference. I hold my head up a lil higher and I'm taking it one day at a time. I'm so glad I made this decision.

Starbucks.......I'll be 8 weeks this Friday. I totally relate to what you are saying. At times I feel free from the food. It so easy to fix something. I dont do a lot of variety either...but I figure that will come. I have copied a bunch of recipes. That is great with your insulin!

I bought some chewable fiber pills today that were recommended. I will see how that goes. Since I went to regular food Constipation has been worse. I understand wanting to get fiber in naturally but it may not be possible and

still get Protein in. And grapes are quite high in sugar too so be careful.

My exercise has been minimal too. I am still recovering from hip replacement. Not being able to take NSAIDs has not been fun. But remember weight loss is more about nutrition than exercise. But I know for me mentally exercise is such an uplifted. I did pull out my mountain bike which has been in storage since I hurt my hip nearly 4 years ago. I rode around the yard and felt a bit of the old joy I used to have on it. Finding something exercise wise that you really like is important. Just try different things or do it with friends. I used to ride 45 miles and not a moment of it felt like exercise.

Finally hit the second out of 3 goals I set for myself before WLS. I hit 199 today! 53 pounds gone as of today. This has been such a wonderful journey so far. I am so thankful I had WLS.

Hope all the February ladies are doing well!

Just a short update....

I haven't been exercising like I should. Starting a new in May! I am getting my liquids in. Unfortunately, not all my Protein. Smh. I really need advice on a great Protein Powder to put in everything. I can't eat meat too much anymore. I eat lots of fruit, drink lots of Water, and eat lots of eggs. I believe Protein powder is going to be my Bariatric Diet Savior.

I believe Isopure makes a flavorless Protein powder you can add to anything. Vitamin Shoppe and Amazon sell it, I hear it's very good.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
