I had my hospital preop appointment today. It went well. I also lost a few more pounds, so the preop diet works! Felt better today too, so maybe the blood sugar levels are leveling out.

I have my pre-op appointment with a bariatric nurse this Friday. I know they will weigh me and take bloods (and I bruise like crazy as my veins always collapse so they jab me a zillion times!) but what else will they do? I'm nervous and excited!

I'm seeing my surgeon and dietitian the Monday after and I'll be starting two weeks of milk diet. Has anyone else been given a milk diet? Is it literally just plain milk for each mealtime?

Just think, a month from now we'll all be turning away chocolate, pizza, fried foods, sugar filled pop. I can't wait! Sick of the endless guilt and the cycle of eat-guilt-hate on self-eat-guilt etc!!!

We are all BRAVE and we're going to SMASH THIS!

Hi Kimzie,

I had my preop Monday. This was my within 30 days of surgery preop. They listened to heart and lungs, went over meds, weighed, blood work and EKG. I am sure all places are different on what's required but most is pretty basic. Sorry I have never heard of milk diet before bit I google uk milk diet and did get information about it, it seems pretty common over there. I must say it did not sound easy but as we know this process will not be and remember it is just another step towards "freedom". Good luck I know you can do it :)

I did a weigh in, had my vitals done, answered a lot of questions about my general health and wellbeing Even though I don't have sleep apnea, after answering all the questions I will be treated as if I have it. Better safe than sorry I suppose. I got an up to date ekg done as well because mine was over 6 months old. And the vampires got me! 7 vials of blood to check everything from my blood type to if I have smoked recently. (Btw, I'm a nonsmoker) Also all my Vitamin levels were checked, and if I need to take Vitamins between now and monday I will get a call. All in all I was in and out in about an hour and a half. I'll learn Fri afternoon what my appointment time is next Monday. I was told by the nurse coordinator at the surgeon's office she was going to try to get me in 1st thing monday morning, I hope so, otherwise it will be a long day without anything to drink. Good luck to everyone who has surgery with me next week. I'll attempt to have my husband update everyone postop if I'm not up to it.

Thanks Roxanne (I love that name btw!) I have been doing some googling and found people mainly discussing a raw milk diet (straight from the cow, not pasteurised) but thank goodness this isn't the one I'll be doing. I found another version which says:

Introduction

Pre op diet- milk diet

This low calorie diet is essential to make your surgery safer.

Patients undergoing obesity surgery tend to have very enlarged livers. If the liver is too big it will be very difficult for the surgeon to perform the operation safely. If this is the case, the surgeon may cancel or postpone your operation. Weight loss before surgery decreases the size of the liver. Not only does this reduce your risk during surgery, but it makes the surgeon’s task easier.

It is necessary for you to follow a low calorie, low carbohydrate diet before surgery. This diet will encourage the body to use up glycogen stores (carbohydrate which is stored in the liver) and thus helping to shrink the size of your liver.

This low calorie diet needs to be followed for 2-4 weeks before surgery. You will be told how long you need to follow the diet for.

Daily allowance: You MUST HAVE the following:

4 pints of semi skimmed milk

2 pints (1 litre) of other Fluid

1 Multivitamin and mineral tablet (e.g. Sanatogen A-Z Complete or Centrum Advance)

1 salty drink e.g. stock cube, Bovril (1 teaspoon in hot water), marmite (1 teaspoon hot water)

Allowed Drinks: at least 2 pints (1 litre) of the following:

No added sugar or diet variety soft drinks

Tea or coffee using milk from allowance (you can use a sweetener but must not use sugar)

Water

Flavoured water (providing it doesn’t contain sugar – check the label)

Allowed extras:

sugar free jelly- 1 sachet a day

Sugar free chewing gum- maximum 3 pieces a day

Following the pre-op milk diet

It is important to have a routine for taking your milk. Try to divide it into glasses taken regularly throughout the day.

For example: 8am, 12 noon, 3pm, 6pm, 9pm

I posted all that as I hope it's useful to someone else!

It'll be hard but it will SO be worth it.

I tried to do a Zumba class in my bedroom whilst streaming the class on YouTube. I was HYPERVENTILATING after about 5 mins lol! Took a rest, did a bit more. It was fun but lonely!! Can't wait until I can JUMP. With just a few stone off I reckon I could attack a class like that in real life :)

OMG that is the same download I found, lol. Sounds tough, but you've got this :-)

How are you feeling about your upcoming surgery? I ask because I am going between slightly anxious and scared out of my bleeping mind. I Am Also VERY Excited. Seems odd to have such mixed emotions. So wondering if it is just me.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
