What do you order if you go out for Chinese ?

Recommended Posts

2 months out and I went out for Chinese with a buddy. I ordered beef with snow peas. This included carrots, snow peas, bamboo shoots, mushrooms and Water chestnuts. No noodles or rice. Did I blow it here? The beef was thin like a slice of American cheese with garlic to spice.

I know there's a list of what Chinese dishes have the most sugar. But it sounds to me like you did Protein and veggies :0)

I don't think you can ever blow it! Chinese is hi in sodium, but I think you made a good choice. Compare what you actually are with what you would have eaten before, that is what make you successful.

I think it is their sauces that are bad. The support group I go to said to never have Chinese food again. I didn't get an explanation as to why but they are of the mind that you should not have it at all. Of course, it is what I will be having tonight but I won't have much at all. If you had something without the sauces then it should be fine (though not very tasty). I would say to not make a habit of having Chinese food. But you did what I do, not have rice or noodles and try to eat the Protein and veggies.

I usually go with egg drop/won ton Soup and some steamed edamame.

That's actually perfect!!! Egg drop Soup and edamame--good for you and tastes good too! Wouldn't even feel like being deprived. Thanks for adding that.

I used to live on Chinese food but the sauces are loaded with sugar. The egg drop Soup is an option but I find it very greasy. So I make my own. I was thinking a couple months down the road to try the steamed options as I don't think you can go too wrong with that. They usually have steamed chicken, shrimp and vegetables. Good luck.

I haven't had Chinese since surgery but I'm not opposed to it. My favorite "healthy" items are Moo Goo Gai Pan without rice or steamed chicken and broccoli with garlic sauce on the side.

I split an order of Szechuan chicken with my hubby. I ate 2 pieces of chicken and one prince of broccoli and he ate the rest. It was a great way to have moist chicken with a great flavor and it wasn't the same old boring chicken. I think Chinese is one of the easier take out places to find something bariatric friendly!

Steamed chicken or shrimp with broccoli. It has no sauce. The sauces will make you gain weight like crazy.

If I have Chinese food again, I will try to make my own at home. It's easier to track what is going into the meal.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
