Ok, J, I am settled down, I just wanted to see someone, anyone talking about biking!!!! You know I know how hard you work and all that you have on you plate. I am sorry!!! I will be patient. I was sooooooooooooooooo freakin bored today!!! Tomorrow will not be like that, I am getting camper ready to go camping!! I am glad you got a ride in today.

HP, your pictures are great!!! I love the biking one. There is a huge difference!!!!! You look a lot younger!!!! You know, if you got some weights or bands or something and worked on your arms, that would be a good thing. It would be better to start now, rather than later. The more muscle your body has the more calories you will burn all day!!!

You can do this ride. You can do this ride. You can do this ride. If you do this ride and you don't finish the 20 miles, SO WHAT????? Its like J said, you tried it and as long as you try, in my book, that is succeeding!!!!!!! You will be surprised how much you will be able to do on the at day. Hey lets see a picture of your bike!!! I will take one of mine tomorrow and show you, if you show me yours!!! LOL...Tell hubby you realize how far you have to go, and thanks for letting you know!! That will shut him up!!!! LOL...damn it I want a road bike soooooo bad. DH keeps telling me to get one, but I we can't afford to get another bike right now. WHY oh WHY did I not get a road bike??????

Oh, and J, you do NOT suck!!! And I am sorry you are hungry. Is it TOM???? I am thinking now it was a good thing I got that fill. I was pretty much eating non stop it seemed. I am down to two meals a day plus my Vitamin shake with banana and strawberries in the morning. I am fullll now. I actually ate too much for dinner and was in a bit of pain. I probably had about 1 1/2 cups. It was a taco, so that is really hard to judge the size in cups. But I do find that I am not thinking about food all the time today. The last couple of weeks, that is all I did, was think about food....which is NOT good either...ok...enough rambling...nite kids!!

HP,

Cute pictures! You look great! Awesome, awesome, awesome.

D-

Get a damn road bike for crying out loud. I tried to tell you, but NOOOOOOOOOOO you didn't listen. Really, we do what we want when we want....but if you can swing it, do it. Or promise to get yourself one in February...when biking season begins again. hehehe...yes I said February.

Slack.

You need a helmet and Water bottles. Don't worry about food until you get closer to biking a solid hour or more. That's going to take a little time. Gloves are good and shorts with a squishy crotch are wonderful. Also you want to get a strobe light for the back of your bike. They cost about 5 bucks. You need it in case you're out at dusk so the people can see you and not hit you. Also, you should have a spare inner tube, and tire pump with you, in case you have a blow out, 15 miles from home.

It's raining this morning here. I hope it clears up by the afternoon. I want to ride today and it's my only chance this week with out hiring a sitter. (Which I will do this weekend.) My bike is due to be picked up, the shop where I purchased it does a 30 day after purchase tune-up, so I took it in on Monday. I can't believe I've only had my bike a month...okay more like 6 weeks. She's such a piece of who I am now.

Juli, Cycle Chick.

Slack, I am soooo glad that you came back to check on this thread. Where did you order your bike from????? Yes, I wear a helmet and gloves. The same kind of gloves that Hoosierpoms has on in her picture. They help a lot!!!!! I do not have biker shorts, but OH Juli does. I am wanting to get some, but I am going to wait until I get my road bike. I might just get that same exact bike that you are getting. I love the look of it. It doesn't matter how far you go your first couple of times out riding. Get used to the bike and enjoy it. You will soon be addicted and go farther and farther. It is a blast!!!!

HP, how much do you have in your band before your second fill? You did it!! Your picture shows up now!!

Deanna

Girl, do not buy a bike with out getting on it and test riding. (Sorry Slack) But you need to make sure it fits your body, upper and lower. They are not like panties...where one size fits a range.

And if you don't try at least 3 bikes you've not shopped around enough. Think- you are spending $700+. You can go to the bike shops and try a bike and then get on line and buy that same bike for cheaper...but don't you just go, "oh that's pretty, I want that one." You will regret it.

I'll kick your ass three different ways.

As always, coming from a place of love-

That is so funny about your bike in the shop. I just took mine and DH in this morning for our 30 day free tune up. I made them promise it would be done today!!!!! I know what you mean about your bike being so much a part of you. If I could attach mine to my ass and keep it there all the time I would.

Hi everyone, sorry I've been away so long. I was just released from the hospital. I went in late Monday early Tuesday something like that. I had a slip with a twist which is potentially fatal. Apparently it is similar to having a tourniquette around your stomach and it could cause your stomach to die and quickly become necropic. Not fun. I am feeling fine now however I am still weak. First thing I had to do is log on and say Hi.

Oh god, we are going out to eat with one of my DH best friends from high school and his wife tonight. They are here from out of town and wanted to get together.

Here are my issues:

1. I just got a fill on Monday. I have had a variety of things to eat since then, but not sure what would be the best to order.

2. I have not eaten as slow as I am right now in front of ANYONE, except my immediate family. Slow and tiny tiny bites. I know it is a fear many people have that everyone will notice, I don't care if everyone notices, I just don't want the people I am dining with to notice.

3. We are going camping this weekend, tomorrow, and I will be without my bike for two days, there is nowhere to ride there, so I want to get a good ride in tonight. BUT, I know what is going to happen. The beer is going to start coming and soon everyone, but me, will be drunk and talking and I won't get home in time to ride. As of right now, the bike is still at the shop and won't be done until 5. dinner is at 6:30. Not enought time to ride, shower and get ready.

4. I feel like cancelling the dinner, but know DH will be very disappointed. His friend can TALK like no other, so I know this is going to be HOURS of my time. Its weird how I see time differently now that I have a goal I am trying to reach!!!

ANY helpful words or advice would be great!!!!!

Oh, and the only skinny one between us all is my DH, so there is going to be lots of food being shoved into people's mouths!!!!! DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEGUSTING!!!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
