Hi Tanya,

Hopefully you'll get there. I know the insurance route can take a VERY long time sometimes. Other times it is surprisingly short. I knew my insurance wouldn't cover it so I didn't bother fighting them and ended up being a self pay in Mexico. I wish you the best and know you'll get it eventually, Teresa

Hi Tanya,

Hang in there. I never thought I'd get approved either. The four months it took seemed like an eternity now it's done and surgery is just around the bend. Keep on trying.

Tanya, my insurance initially denied mine, I appealed, 8 months later I got my band. Would I do it again and wait that long if necessary? In a heartbeat!!!

Hi hopeful1!

I had surgery in Greeley from Dr. J on 9-21-04. He is excellent and the hospital staff was OUTSTANDING. They did a wonderful job of managing any pain, were friendly, and it was a good experience for me. I get my first fill on 11-5 and I am feeling ready for it. Just follow all the directions they give you and you will have good luck, too, I'm sure! How exciting for you!!! Yahoo!

I live in Longmont and my surgery date is November 9th! My doctor is also Dr. Johnell and I think he great! Luckily I didn't have to wait too long for approval from my insurance, I would have gone bonkers. All my pre-op tests are done and I will see Dr. Johnell on 11/3 for my pre-op appointment. I still have to go to a support group meeting, I think I'll go to one of the Tuesday evening ones since I work full time.

Rose and Kay,

Nice to meet you. It's always great to hear from some other Johnell patients. Rose, how have you been doing so far? I have another Dr J friend who was banded Oct. 5. She says that 5 week waiting period to be filled has been a little hard for her. She's healed quickly though and feels good. Have you been able to lose any weight while you're waiting?

Kay my pre-op appointment is Oct. 27. I'm going to an afternoon class on Tuesday, Oct. 26 (I think it's required). Anyway I'm so excited. I'm just hoping I don't get delayed. I've had a few pre-op tests that need to be looked at again! Darn.

Good luck both of you and keep me posted with how things are going. E-mail me at home if you like - ddp652@aol.com.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
