Yea! A new board for us January people. Woohoo!

My pre-op appointments were today. I had to get a blood test, EKG and upper GI test. I then met with the nurse to go over all the details of before surgery and after and then I met with the surgeon.

My pre-op diet is for one week before surgery. I can have 3 protien shakes a day and 2 meals (meals means, broth Soup or a low-fat yougurt). The day before surgery I can only have Clear liquids. Also, starting three weeks before surgery I have a bunch of Vitamins, Iron and Calcium that I need to start taking.

I am getting super excited!!!

@sweetgagr100 - it actually wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. I had done one before for acid reflux and this one was much less detailed. It was two videos of me drinking that crapy barium stuff and then I had to guzzle the rest of that disgusting stuff and two xrays of my full stomach. For me the worst part is always the blood test. I HATE having my blood drawn. HATE.

I need to get on myfitnesspal app. I also just found an app called bariatric timer. It helps with the timing between eating and drinking and meals.

I've started giving up carbonated drinks and caffeine. So far so good but it's been hard.

My nutritionist is very pragmatic about my love for Diet Coke and coffee. Her advice is to focus on caffeine elimination only, because my guts will be so unhappy with carbonated drinks after surgery that it'll only take one slip-up to break me of the habit and I may as well enjoy it while I can. I laughed at how practical she was about it, but I can't fault the reasoning. So right now I'm drinking caffeine-free Diet Coke and trying to break my coffee habit to avoid dealing with horrible caffeine-withdrawal headaches at the same time I'm dealing with surgical pain.

I don't meet with the nutritionist until pre-op, and my only pre-diet is Clear Liquids the day before surgery.

@Dolce_xxv@jblkmom

I just posted a new topic, but the not drinking while eating thing is one of my big fears. I tried today at lunch... Ended up guzzling a glass of Water halfway through the meal.

I downloaded an app called bariatric watch and it's a timer that allows you to time when you can eat and when you can drink and it works well for me

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
      Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

      Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

      Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
