Caffeine withdrawal!

Recommended Posts

Sleeve date 12/15/14 - my doc has me on 2 week liquid diet. Very sad about giving up my 2 cans of diet coke a day but I'll get by. By second day dull headaches started. I wondered if it was withdrawal. Then I remembered that I also stopped my 2 Anacin (aspirin/caffeine) at same time. Been taking those for 20 years. Then I read up on the condition and the list of symptoms was just about everything I was feeling! At day 4 there was just no way I was going to get through this. The withdrawal caught me by surprise. So I called my doc and asked if the diet could be causing it. He said not likely. Then I told him of my prior caffeine use. I was so relieved when he told me I can use my Anacin up to 7 days b4 surgery. I thanked him profusely. Sure enough. It worked. Headaches stopped last night. However, I couldn't sleep last night which is one of the withdrawal symptoms. Hopefully when I get a dose or two in me today I will have a better night.

Good luck! I suppose it is too late for this advice now, but I weaned myself off of caffeine for a couple months prior to surgery to avoid this. Next time you'll know!

So what is your plan for the week before surgery?

Did you try Tylenol for the headache, that is allowed with my pre-op diet. I went to half caf about 2 months ago so my withdrawal wasn't so bad.good luck.

Thanks all. I will probably use No-Doz for my caffeine fix once I stop the Anacin. I'll give it up gradually next time. BTW I have taken 3 doses in the past 24 hours and I am soo much better than I was past couple days. I was so sick compared to today. What a wake up call! ????

My surgery is 12/16 and I'm on day 6 of pre-op diet. I was very addicted to sodas before. The first 3 days were horrible. I pretty much took tylenol for headaches, but it didn't help much so the first 3 days I was in bed by 8pm. Luckily, day 4 was a lot better. Since stopping the sodas I actually feel a whole lot better! Best of luck to you!!!

I have been highly addicted to diet Pepsi since high school and have bad Migraines so I am terrified to go off caffeine. I start my one week liquid diet on Friday the 12th. I'm going to try to drink smaller amounts of soda each day to help wean myself. Any suggestions? Yes - I know it would have been smarter to start months ago but I just couldn't do it. I have been drinking diet Pepsi in gallons while I can. I am just as worried about fighting the food addiction as the diet Pepsi withdrawal after surgery.

I had about a week of headaches after I gave up soda a couple of months ago. I only drink Water now. I am not looking forward to the two-week pre-op diet before my surgery on 1/5/15. Anybody have issues with their pre-op diet? Headaches or anything else?

I had about 4 days of nasty withdraw from caffeine...luckily I decided to give caffeine up about a week before my pre op diet started in case I had withdraw. But it was nasty....I was given permission to take excedrin Migraine up to 2 days before surgery...it has a big of caffeine in it (and I get migraines) so you might look into that as well! It DOES get better, promise!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
