Fatty Liver Disease

Recommended Posts

I am diagnosing myself here but I am pretty certain I have non alcoholic fatty liver disease

I can review my labs on line and view the trends since surgery almost 6 months ago now

My Alk-phos is elevated and increases each time I have my blood work done

My ALT and AST are also trending upwards all three tests are elevated above normal ranges

I don't drink alcohol and haven't for years and years

So the only explanation is I have Fatty Liver Disease! Loosing weight and exercising helps!! but obviously in my case it hasn't

My Glucose level is 111 although I have not been diagnosed with Diabetes there is a chance I do have issues there plus my triglycerides are still elevated at 172 post surgery

Anybody else have these problems?

I have fatty liver. My surgeon said that 3 - 4 months from surgery, it should go away.

I think your primary doctor needs to interpret the blood test results. I hope everything resolves OK in the long term.

Do you still have a gallbladder? All of those lab results you mentioned, which are liver function tests (LFTs), can be elevated with gall disease, even if no stones are present. Also, malnutrition can cause abnormal LFTs. Hope things work out for you. Let us know what your surgeon says about everything.

Please get a scan. Not wanting to scare you because I have fatty liver also and have for years. My scans show that the liver is still fatty but I do not have cirrhosis. My husband had NASH and was a diabetic also. He never drank. Not even a little. He had fatty liver for years also but we didn't know because the physician even after 15 years of blood work and care never ordered a scan. My husband was diagnosed with Hepatocellular Carcinoma caused from NASH in January and passed away in June. I implore you to please tell your dr to scan you to see how your liver looks. God bless and I know how you feel because I have the same thing. When I got to a normal weight, my enzymes were normal. The scans should be done yearly. If they had caught this earlier, he would here now I really believe. :(

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
