Instead of bread what to do?

Recommended Posts

With eggs, tuna salad and perhaps a yogurt dip, what do you use to dip? Is there a cracker or bread to purchase to use . I know thick bread is a no no. What about pita or those rye crackers that are really dry and crunchy?

Suggestions would be appreciated.

A spoon!

Seriously, that's what I do with tuna/egg salad. And yogert. I do occasion make a dip with yogert and PB2 and dip apples (peeled if you are less than 3 months out.

You don't need the carbs.

If you are simply asking because of tolerance and not nutrition, crispy is better than doughy. So pita not so much but crackers yes. The gluten has to be broken down through toasting, that is the part that is hard to tolerate.

Also if you are far enough out... Veggies. Thin slices cucumber makes a great "cracker" as does eggplant. You can dry out eggplant in a dehydrator or a low temp oven to make an awesome cracker.

I agree with @jess9395. I use a spoon for chicken salad, egg salad, etc. I've excluded all wheat and flour from my diet entirely and really don't miss it at all. Even at 4 months out, I still have a hard time eating anything beyond Protein because I get filled quickly. I do add a few veggies and berries to my meals but usually the Protein does it for me.

Bes of luck!

If you are far enough along you can use Pork rinds. The give you crunch and texture without carbs.

I use these. They taste good and since they are made of cheese they melt in your mouth after chewing a little. They were approved by my dr. for puree phase :)

Fiber one bread toasted well. 50 calories, lots of fiber and it tastes great. I need to have some carbs/grains to keep things moving.

I'm 8 months out and can eat all breads, rolls, wraps etc. I started with saltines. Then I used Fold Its for a bit. Now I can honestly tolerate anything I am in the mood for. I have a sandwich for lunch most days.

Make Kale Chips! They are great and crunchy. Just spray Kale with cooking spray and season with salt & pepper or any spices you want and bake them on 350 till cripsy.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
