Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

I just found out my surgery will be in July (granted my pre-op testing goes okay) SOOOOOOOOO

Here's a thread for everyone getting banded in July 07!

Does anyone have any good ideas for a neat name we could call ourselves?

Dini, yes Sarah gets weekly visits from physio, occupational and speech therapists. Thankfully they all go to the daycare, so I don't have too many appts each week. Once a month they come to our home to give us progress updates. They have helped so much, its amazing. Our son, Jesse, also gets weekly occupational and speech thereapy while school is in. We have to attend the speech sessions with him, and monthly for the occupational therapy.

Makes for a busy life, but worth it.

Kathy, OOOOHHHHH, so that's why the security people REALLY look the things over!!!! I wondered why I had this deep down need to hide the things! Really, they do help me curb the real food hunger that could get me in trouble weight wise and recovery wise. Off to the airport, New Whey packed, CC

Hey everyone!

Now that the surgery is all said and done, have you been telling more people or just keeping it quiet?

Chim- I haven't took anyone else yet. I have decided though once I get down and close to my goal I will start shouting this at the world. If it will help one more person I will tell. My mother in law really wants my to tell my sister in law because she has so many aches and pains from her weight. I told her if Deb asks me how I am losing my weight I will not lie to her and I will tell her about the band.

Hi, All,

I had my post op follow up appointment today. I saw the surgeon's P.A. and then the dietician. They were pleased with my progress. I'm down 14 1/2 lb since my pre op visit a week before surgery. Dietician spent a lot of time with me on vitamins. I'm not getting enough of some critical ones. Not getting enough Calcium/Vit D, for instance.

The band I have is a VG 11. Does that mean its 11 cm long or that it holds 11 cc?? My first fill is due at the six week point hich is Aug 31 but they had no appts available that day so I have to wait for a phone call. Like that's going to happen!! It just means I'll have to keep calling and bugging them!!

Hunger pains seem to be increasing, sometimes only 60-90 minutes after I eat.

Had a very busy day but really enjoyed cayching up on all the posts tonight.

Oh, and guess what??? I was given wrong info by the first dietician!! I never really had to give up my caffeine!!! My doctor says its okay in moderation!! So my morning cup of "Joe" is back!!! Yippee!! I HATE DECAF!!

Auntie phyl- CONGRATS on the 14 1/2 lbs. YOUR DOING WONDERFUL!!!!! I am not a big cup of 'joe' drinker but I know several who are so I can sympathize. Bet that first cup was heavenly. I too have to wait but only for 2 extra days for my fill. I get mine at the 6 week mark also and it fell on Labor day and then the following day the PA that does the fills is gone.

I got these and honestly the fruit punch tastes horrible to me. Do you have this problem? When I think I can brave it I put in into water and REALLLLLLLY dilute it down to try to kill the taste. I bought a case of these and a case of the grape. I haven't tried the grape. I am hoping they are better so I am trying to get rid of the fruit punch and save the 'good ones' for last. LOL

Jackie, I agree they aren't great. I only take two swallows at a time, three if I really really need to curb hunger. To me they are too salty tasting. CC

NewCC and Jackie, I also think the bullets taste like crap, but they have a lot of protien. I make a sugarfree drink and put an oz of the bullet in it.

It eliminates the yucky, salty taste.

Tell me what you think of the grape - I had to spit the fruit punch one back out it was so disgusting! Hoping grape would be better? I got the sample pack from bariatric eating.com so am wading my way through - have found a couple I like but the test tube fruit punch was certainly not one of them! Coffeeee??????I hope so! Kim

What kind of unflavored protein powder is everyone using? Are you happy with it? what all do you mix it in? Thanks for the info and advice! Kim

Hey everyone!

I miss ya'll. We've gotta keep out thread going. Can some of you at work check in around lunchtime or sthing???

Well, here's a question for everyone...

Now that the surgery is all said and done, have you been telling more people or just keeping it quiet?

I know for me, I've been telling more people. And the funny thing is, I've had a few people call me...b/c they want to get the surgery, too! How awesome is that?!?!?!

I haven't told too many a few people but my gf here at work blabbed it to almost everyone... I hate everyone coming in saying how are your doing - how much weight have you lost. I am not one to put all my business in the street... :eyebrows:

I have the unjury and mix it into Soups - mash potatoes so far - but you can't heat above 130 degrees. - you can put in anything i guess. I really don't care for the taste and I think there is a small taste to it.

I will use it when i get my fills and have to do liquids for a day or 2

I am now on soft food and between that and my clear Protein Drinks that i get from my doctors - i am getting my 60 grms of protein in a day.

Good afternoon to all --how is your day going? I got some great sleep, am less sore today (8 days out) and feeling pretty good.:bounce:

The band I have is a APL (14cc's), it's one of the new bands, but not sure what the difference really is from any other band out there, maybe my doc said less healing time? Not sure.....

Have I told anyone since surgery? Not really, since everyone pretty much knew prior to it....lol. It's a big deal and I shared with my family and friend support group.....it's been great so far.

Since I had my one week follow up yesterday and the nurse told me to take more liquids for hunger, I have and really feel much better about it. I don't know why I thought I could only have so much each day....crazy.....they shouldn't have told me all this when I was in recovery....my brain was fuzzy.....:notagree

I am glad you are feeling pretty good :tea:.. I was back at work on day 6 and the only thing that was bad that day was that i wore pants that hurt my port - went home a little early - but since them i have been fine (wearing dresses) - started going to the gym (just walking on the treadmill) on day 12 and have had no problems since. Each day it gets better. :biggrin1:

Does anyone have any good chilli recipies?

I have an awesome White chicken Chili recipe...too bad I can't eat that right now, unless I puree it!

Let me see if I have it here at work w/me. I may have it saved somewhere.

I drink Syntha-6. http://www.vitacost.com/BSN-Syntha-6-Chocolate-Milk-Shake?csrc=PPCADWLT-syntha-6&s_kwcid=syntha-6|462161171

I have the chocolate and the vanilla Ice Cream flavours. They're delicious! I mix mine with soy milk as I don't drink any dairy. We discovered them at a local sport nutrition store a few months ago. There are 23g of protein per serving and with the 7g from the soy milk I mix it with, it gives me a daily total of 60g. My nutritionist told me I need between 40 and 80 and I feel like I'm getting plenty with just those two shakes.

My problem time of the day as far as hunger goes was always been the afternoon to early evening. If I can make it from 2pm - 7pm without eating out the entire fridge, I was doing well. So I've decided that if that problem time crops up again for me in the future, I'll time one of my Protein Shakes for that time of day.

I went for my first post-op check-up today and everything is going fabulously. My doctor is pleased with my weight loss (12lbs) and so am I. I'm allowed to go swimming again as of today. Yippeeeee! :clap2: That's sooooo comforting especially now that summer has finally come to Dallas. It's up in the 100s for the first time this season and the timing couldn't be better for me.

Unruhly, I use Any Whey from GNC. I don't really care for its flavor, so I haven't been using it much.

Frustrated, congrats on the 12lbs! YAY!!!! Glad you're doing well. I hear ya about the heat. It was 104 here today, and 112 w/the heat index! I can't stand it!
