dmtjet, you brought tears to my eyes with that story. My fathe is gone, and I so miss him terrible, and have mourned his death for so long. My mother and I have tried very hard to make amends in the past 16 years since he's been gone, and though we will never be close, I do love her, and would miss her terribly too. We all have the world in our hands, to do with it whatever we want, and there's no use crying over spilled milk, only laughter when you spill the whole gallon!!!

I hope one day to age as a healthy, more mature adult then I have every dreamed of being, and when it's time to bring my mother home, I'm assured that I too will let her sit at our table, the family table!!

Thanks for that story.

Lynette, I surely didn't mean to upset anyone ... I just thought it was sooooo beautiful! I think often times we don't realize what our children take notice too and forget that we will not always be healthy and "semi-young" (at least for me, lol) I am sorry for your loss and your difficulties with your mother! I do understand as my father and I haven't been able to carry on a civil conversation since my parents' divorce over 10 years ago! It will never be the same! But we do go on and hopefully make the best of what we DO have! I am sure that I also would let my father set at my table in his old age! I tend to be way too forgiving! Fact is, no matter what he has said and/or done in the past few years, he is my father, and I will ALWAYS love him! I may not respect him in the days of late, but I will definitely always love him!:cry

Sunny,

Thanks for the kind words. Can you tell me how to move my pic from the the context of my email to underneath my screen name?

Eileen

Go to UserCP and adjust your avatar. That is where you can put your picture with your screen name.

Maria,

Welcome to the group! I had the pains in the shoulder the first week. They are the caused by the gas pushing on your diaphram. The nerves for that run up through the shoulders per my anesthesiologist, so that is why you get the shoulder pains. My left shoulder has continued to ache on and off, however, this past week too. I figure it is still from this. I've just used the Gas-x strips that dissolve on your tongue. Can you get them there?

All, my literature said to wait a week before taking a bath or swimming. I think a week is fine, unless you're concerned about the sanity of your pool. Your incisions should be completely closed after a week.

I do have something that I just noticed yesterday that has me a little concerned. There appears to be a raised area all around my port, the size of an old silver dollar or a little larger. I do hope that it isn't going to be raised forever, as I think it is quite noticeable. Not sure that I'll actually be wearing a two-piece swimsuit any time in the future, but would prefer it not be noticeable. I'm not vain, but am hoping that the scars will fade also.

Take care everyone and goodnight!

I have never been one to like Soups, but tonight I had some Tomato Soup from costco that was awesome! Soooo flavorful, yummy. Boy, my tastes buds are changing. DH was scared at me eating the Soup, he had plan B ready, but to his surprise -mine- I loved it! What's more, it took me longer to eat my 1 cup of soup than it took him to eat a mountain of past with shrimp, and a ton of bread and butter. First time in 10 years of marriage that he finishes a meal first.

I love my band already!!!!

Hey,

So, I am writing you guys in hope the it will lift some of this yucky feeling that I am experiencing. I feel very lonely in this recovery and truthfully it's killing me. I am single and live alone and have had some great friends come help me, but in general it is me going through this every day. And if it wasn't for this forum, I might go nuts!

So thank you for listening to my babble...and getting me through these first few days. Each day I feel better, I just think today the emotions caught up with me. Good news is that this day is almost over, and tomorrow is a new day.

Keeping you all in my prayers....

Bostonchic

I know you wrote this last night - but just want to give you a  hug.

I too am single but i do have my 16 yr old grandson living with me - but you know they don't give you alot of attention - He's there if i ask for something.

I too missed a concert - I bought tickets a while back for a group i really wanted to see - well got my date sooner than I expected and the concret was 7/21 and I was banded 7/17 - I felt good enought to go, but thought i really would be pushing it so i didn't... There will be other concerts and just think how thin and cute you will be looking next yr when the event is back.. (assume it's an annual event)

Like Jeanie said - there are some pros to being single - you don't have to cook for others = which can REALLY be hard.. Call your friends or get on line when you are down. We are here for you

Jeanie, Could you send "The Wooden Bowl" to me at my email address. I am not too good on the computer and I don't know how to just pull off just your post with that on it. It really touched me and I have a friend who really needs to read this. Thank you if you can. My email address is pjclifton123@hotmail.com. That is special.

Patti C

You certainly may have it! I sent it out, let me know if it doesn't come through!

Dini, Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday Dini sweety, happy birthday to you!!!

24 is going to be your year!!!! Life hasn't passed you by, you just have been stuck and unable to jump on board. Now you're ready to grab hold and make it everything you want it to be. Your first step was deciding to do this for yourself.

thanks kathy, how you doing??

Hey everyone, I have a question. I had my surgery on the 19th and I went in for my post op apt on the 26th and when they weighed me I had lost 7 pounds. For some reason i thought being on liquids i would have lost a lot more then that? Anyone else feel this way? My mom told me i was swollen from surgery and all the liquid they pump into you and of course from sodium in the broth and stuff. I was a little dissapointed i guess. LoL

Kristin babes, please do not worry, when i went back for my 1 week check up i had lost 2lb if even! i had my 4 week check up on wednesday and i'd lost 18 or so lbs, the doctor was very happy with my progress. do not stress please. also do not keep weighing your self. i know this is hard but weight your self every 3 days you'll be a lot happier when yo see you've lost 3 lbs in 3 days rather than 1 lb a day (not exact figure you know what i mean) best of luck and take it easy on yourself xx

Nurse76, thanks for the b-day wishes and its was not belated when you sent it. it falls on the 29th!!!! wow 37.5 lbs thas something else . it totally deserves a CONGRATULATIONS

hey MOMMA how you doing?? How are you feeling? i love the story u put up. thank yuo

Cate, Sorry you are feeling so lousy!! Make sure to follow up with your doctor if it doesn't improve.

Lynette, How was supper???? Waiting for a recipe and a critique, Girl!!! I didn't know you have your fill on Tuesday! How exciting!!! You will have to let us know how that goes! I go for my 1 month check-up on Friday!!! A month already, can you believe it! Well, a few days shy, but pretty close!! We made it!!! WooHoo!!!

Christy, We miss you too, but schooling is important and the RN title will be awesome!! Congrats on your test score, that is fabulous!!!

SDChick, Sorry about the gas, it is the pits!!! GasX strips work magic and walking, walking, walking. Not much else that does anything, lol! I still have a great deal of gas, but someone said it probably is from all the Protein. That is mostly what I am having these days, so if protein does it, it would be the culprit, lol!

Laurend, Welcome back from Vacation!!! Hope you had a nice time! Where did you go? Was it hard to stay on your diet and all? You will have to fill us in!

Blue Eyed Baby, Welcome and Congrats on your banding!!!

ribearty, Glad things went well at the game! How wonderful that your team won!!!! That makes it that much better!!! I'm not worried about the pool, because I am all healed up. Doc said it was okay at 1 week and this is 2 and a half. I have been showering since day one. Plus, it is our own pool, so I know what is in it and I take care of the sanitation. I don't have any open incisions! I was in yesterday and today and it was heavenly!!! LOL

Frustrated, I know what you are saying about social events! Isn't it a shame how we focus everything around food!!! It is hard to go somewhere and do anything without food being involved. Makes it tough when that is the one thing you are trying to avoid!!! Although the places I have gone so far, it really hasn't been a problem, I always am able to find SOMETHING I can eat! LOL

Brandy, I know what you are saying about scars. Who wants them??? LOL, but really I don't think mine will be bad! They are looking pretty good! We will all be looking HOT!

Cazulay, I am glad you are full and satisfied! Isn't it amazing how different our bodies and minds are working? Impresses me!!! Never would have thought it!!!

Good evening, Chim, Dini, and Sunny!!!

Jeanie, hi.

Hi, Sunny!!! Are you feeling better? Sure hope so!!! I did Clear Liquids for 1 day, then full liquids for a week, then pureed/mushies/softs for 2 weeks, then soft meats plus for 1 week, and regular diet thereafter.

IndioGirl, I know, that is the first time I read that Wooden Bowl thing! I thought, gee, there are soooo many people on here that are battling something or another, it just kind of puts things in perspective! Makes you thankful for all the blessings we DO have!!! We have a whole life to live and we aren't forced to be segregated from those we love and eat form wooden bowls, thank God!!!!

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

Good Luck this procedure is well worth it I am down to 249.6 lb please continue with the process..

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
