Lucky # Sevens- July 07 Bandsters

I am so jealous that your date is coming up so soon...I have 49 more days to go (but who's counting???huytsao.gif ).
Yeah, but I've also been trying to get approved since late October. It seemed like it was never going to happen. I kept having problems with the surgeon's office getting all my tests and records, then had to change surgeons because my insurance didn't cover the original one (which I didn't find out until they had submitted everything to insurance), then had lots more problems with the new surgeon's office getting everything and sending my stuff to the correct fax number at the insurance company.

I was originally trying to have surgery before the end of last year. Then that changed to before my classes (I'm a grad student) started again in January. And then it changed to having it during Spring Break. Then before the end of the semester. Eventually, I was just hoping to have it done before the end of this summer. I really thought I was not going to be able to do it, though, since my surgeon was supposed to go on maternity leave. Plus, I was having to fight with the surgeon's office to get the surgery scheduled before my insurance policy was going to change (which is on August 2). Luckily, they FINALLY came through. I'm starting to get a tad nervous, but it's so much less stress now that I know it will actually be happening.

Goodness gracious!!! You have been through the flippin ringer. I'm sorry. I take it back...but I'm still jealous. LOL!!! It's good, though, that you have persisted. Look at that determination. And look at you now...I'm sure w/all this struggle, you will appreciate your band that much more.

Do you have to do a pre-op diet?

Do you have to do a pre-op diet?
I think my surgeon requires a two-week low-fat/low-carb diet. So, I have another week or so before I have to start it. I'll find out more next Wednesday, when I meet with her.

Well I am on my way. My surgery date is 7/13 and I can hardly wait. I am exercising and watching calories so I am in the best of health when I go in. My Doctor is Dr. Haag at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield MA. Part of me can't beleive that this is actually happening. Looking forward to sharing with all of you.

Hi all,

I got my results from the Upper GI my surgeon requires before surgery and discovered I have a "non-refluxing hiatus hernia below a white schatzki ring" :). How's that for a mouth full!!!:(

Anyone else have a schatzki ring? When I researched it, it sure explained some things my body does that are apparantly symptoms or should I say manifestations of a schatzki ring.

I go tomorrow for an EGD. This is where they go in with an endoscope (sp?) and stretch the ring. Sounds lovely (NOT). Regarding the hernia I don't know yet whether it is big enough that the sugeon is going to need to repair it when she is in there placing the band or not.

On the bright side I may get my surgery moved up to July 5. My daughter's 9th birthday is the day my surgery is scheduled for (July 10) and the doctor's assistant knew this (as I keep reminding her) :D and today she said they might be able to do it sooner. I think I will hear tomorrow whether it is moved up to the 5th.

That's all for now folks. Hope all is well with everyone else.:)

Lynette - sorry I didn't respond earlier. Alaska is one hour BEFORE California/Pacific time. It was a beautiful day today and I took the kids to a lake nearby and we skipped rocks. NICE!

Hey fellow July-Bandsters!

My hubby's having surgery on 7/18 with our friend Mikel909. I'm so excited and July can't get here soon enough for me. Wishing you all the best of luck in the upcoming days and for those of you (like my hubby) that are required to do a liquid diet--GOOD LUCK, stay strong and focus on the goal!

Hello all,

I had a class on Monday evening where we taste tested some of the Protein powders, CIB, etc. It was nice because now I know what I can tolerate and what I can't. It wasn't too bad.

We are growing again. I'm sure there will be amny more to come in the next few weeks. Hope everyone is doing well. I've been getting all the things on the list when I go to the grocery. I have a whole cabinet that will be just mine when I get done.

I'm heading to bed, so I'll talk to you all tomorrow.

Lynette

Glad you decided to join us! Wow. 7/3 is coming up soon. We need to add you to the ever-growing Lucky 7's list. Since you've lurked (that sounds funny), I'm sure you know how much info is available here. I feel so prepared and truly confident. Thanks LBT!

Who's your surgeon and where will you be banded?

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
