Karla- Congrats on the weight loss. I didn't know Lexapro had a generic, my Mom is on that and they are not giving her the generic and it is expensive.

Tomorrow is last day of testing. Our student's funeral is Thurs. We are having problems with his friends fighting students who they believe said bad things about him. Which is not true, but in their minds they believe if they fight for him, they are honoring him. These children are truly messed up.

My Mom is still in the hospital, the social workers are trying to make me take her home and I won't. I went to the nursing home today and then to a lawyer. If I could take her home, why would she need to go in a home?

She is now considered a brittle diabetic and her blood sugar must be continually monitored to see what her insulin dose will be. The dr also said she has a lesion or growth on her bladder that will be monitored. She has a huge hernia that the dr said he will not fix. And the dr also said she will need a pacemaker cause her heart keeps pausing. She was very lucid today, seemed quite normal. On Sat. her condition was very scary. I brought her soft shell crabs for supper today; she was ecstatic.

Denise, Hugs, hang in there, I know the situation with your mom is impossible. My doctor prescribes Citalopram instead of the Lexapro. I was on Lexapro, but couldn't afford it and the Citalopram works the same. I'm not sure of it is a 'true' generic version of Lexapro, but the doctor says it is basically the same. Try it, its cheap, about $7 per month.

Thank you all for listening to me gripe, I just felt overwhelmed.

Okay folks, stupid question...I know a lot of people talk about pain at the port site after surgery. So, I figured since I didn't have a lot of gas pain, I'd skip past any other pain, well not so. I feel like my port is going to pop out of my skin. I know it won't, but it hurts like heck. Any suggestions? By the time I get home from work I have to lay vertical for about an hour for the pain to stop making me the 'hunchedback of Notredam'. I don't have a lot of time to be vertical. I have parent conference tonight and then have to get ready for a sub so I can head across the state to help with my dad.

Just got a phone call from mom, dad's back in the hospital running a fever. They think it is pneumonia. He is on mega antibiotics and having blood transfusions. His oxygen level is low. Now what????

Hugs GF !!! Know that you are in my thoughts and prayers - Wish I could fix it for you - I hate when I can't - but sounds like you do have things under control... xoxox Jaent

Karla - portsite hurts the longest - I wore a pair of pants the 1st day back and they were just a tiny snug and that hurt my port (even though it's above my waist) - so I wore dresses for the first few week - nothing tight around my waist and that helped.

Hugs on Dad being back in the hospital - Prayers for you and your family - I have been where you are now - one day at a time and go give your Daddy a big hug and tell him how much you love him..

Go figure.... why did it run over like that??? I was just glad that I set the TiVo to record "Fringe"!! I don't like that show and never watch it, but when I saw that it came on right after Idol I decided to record it just in case there was anything we missed! Adam was AMAZING!! I think he will win! But I really like Danny, Matt, Nanoop and that other cute little guy. Blind guy is so sweet, but just not as talented as the others, and Lil had another bad week. And the young girl.. she didn't do well this week either. As the weeks go on it's going to get tough because there are five guys who are all really good!!

VERY WINDY out here! AWFUL!! Went to Water aerobics wearing my "swim sweater", and didn't go to my usual spot. The corner of the pool that I claim as "MINE" happens to be opposite a doorway which turns in to a wind tunnel when it's like this.. so I retreated to the opposite corner. Good move because there was a hot Water jet right there! I stayed in front of it as much as possible!

Hope the scale goes down tomorrow but I"m not staking my life on it. I've been stuck in the same place for almost a month. After I dropped that 5 lb in one week I've been yo yo ing again! Up a little, down a little, etc. Last week I was down 2 1/2, but this week.. we'll see! Can't seem to get that ticker to -110!! Dental appts for both of us in about an hour will send us out in to the wind again!

3_9_6v.gif

Earl's birthday tomorrow. He has a favorite Italian restaurant we discovered a month or so ago... I told him we could go for lunch (after our weigh in!) Last time I ordered spaghetti & meatballs and got 4 meals out of it!

Ya I think it's going to be all guys in the final 5 - I like the same ones as you - but agree Adam is going to win !!! Maybe tonite they will replay Adam's performance since there is such an uproar about it being cut last night for those who have dvr's tivo's...

Lil Rounds needs to listen to the judges and sing a mary j blige song !!!!

Alison will make it on her own after this - she does have a good voice and she knows how to play to the crowd...

Teeth again !!!! OMW - that's just too much dentist for me - but I understand when I do have to go it's like 5 visits till it's all done...

Thanks for the reminder it's Earl's bday- I will send him and ecard...

Ya you are due for a loss if it's been 3-4 weeks since your last - we all know that you go for a while with zip then will drop 3-4-5 in one week...

Well, I haven't eaten the Cookies - I am straving today too -

I ate too much last night - dinner (fish rice spinach) - then snack pack popcorn then 1/2 cup strawberries & light whip cream then small sherbet cone - then 2 small bowls (total 1 cup) of raisin bran with 2% milk - So today I have just had 1 pear for bf - lunch 1 pot wonder 1 large cup pork/tomatoe sauce/little rice & corn - 8 cheetos - 2 french frys - just ate a string cheese... I could naw off my arm - but I know I don't need those Cookies - my boss will be back tomorrow I will leave them on his desk tonite.

well it's 3:59 - I go home at 4 - then gym - so talk to you all latter

Phyl - please email me earl's email address - thanks.

Simon gave Adam a standing ovation. Go on American Idol's website and you can watch the songs.

My Mom went in the nursing home tonight. I went bring her her things and give her a shower. While she was drying off; I went to move her bed. On the floor were pastel hershey kiss wrappers all over behind the bed. The lady in her rooms daughter was there so I told her to look at the mess. She said they didn't even look behind the bed. So I go dress my Mom and make her brush her teeth. I go pull her covers back, and low and behold a bag of hershey kisses in the freakin bed. Her roommate said, "I gave her those." I said, she's diabetic she can't have this. She said, "Oh, I'm diabetic too." I said if you give her a bag of candy she will eat the whole bag, just give her a couple. Mom also begged for money to get chips. Obviously the healthy diabetic in her room told her about the vending machines down the hall. If she didn't see the woman eating chips and candy it wouldn't cross her mind. I think the roommate is gonna be a problem.

LOL!! Ya THINK???

This sounds like a scene out of a bad movie....a comedy!

You have a challenge ahead of you!

Someone in authority needs to talk to these two about their diabetes!! Seriously... like threaten them!! Or at least put a good scare in to them.

Vending machines! That's another problem!

I suppose you could take away her money!

But then you'd have to take the other ladies' money, too!

Geez, sorry about the nursing home situation. We hate to turn into our parents' parent.

Well, add insult to injury...just gained 2 pounds. I know...this time is about healing not loosing, but it still frustrating. I will be so glad to get to mushies so my stomach feels a little full. I know one of the problems is what I drink. I try to stick with Water or diluted juice. I can't handle artificially sweetened drinks. I suppose the Protein enriched cheddar cream Soup isn't a help either.

hi ladies. Just a quick post to let you know I'm alive. Just very busy. Had the best intentions of getting on the eliptical last night here in the hotel but didn't get in until after 9 and just curled up in bed. I know I need to get up and move but by that time of night my back is just too tired. A little sore today. I know it's just tiredness, but makes me angry.

I think I might be dropping poinds again. ... but not positive. I pray I'm on the downward side finally. it's been a very LONG winter. It's spring here in Helena and the weather makes me happy. Wish it was this nice at home. It was over 70 here the other day...at home still in the 40's.

well better get to the office. This work sure does cut into my computer time!!!

Wii Fit says I'm down 2.2 lb today.... we'll see what the TOPS scale says! They don't always agree, but I'm hopeful my ticker will move today!

The wind died down to a gentle breeze!

Off to TOPS and Water aerobics in a few minutes.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

Good Luck this procedure is well worth it I am down to 249.6 lb please continue with the process..

      2. Selina333

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
