It doesn't usually affect me one way or the other. I try to take everything as a compliment. It still surprises me to hear it though.

I'm just at the beginning of my weight loss journey. I don't think I'll be offended by being called skinny. If they add in "too", that might be a different story. What I always hated though and still do, is when someone smaller than me tells me I don't have to lose our encourages bad eating habits, when they are always saying they're fat or in a diet.

I am uncomfortable with people noticing me -- working on that. I have a friend who says, "Hey, Skinny!" and I know it's meant as an acknowledgement of my hard work and a compliment. Basically I don't want attention drawn to my body. After trying to hide my weight for so many years it's an issue for me -- eyes up here, please! I don't like the idea that people are watching my belly disappear and my legs getting so long and shapely, etc. Eeek! Like I said, working on this.

I'm not offended it by it at all. I think people *think* they're complimenting me on my success when they call me skinny so that's how I try to take it. The only thing thing that really offends me in terms of things people call me related to my weight these days is that I have had a few people call me "scrawny butt". Now THAT, was offensive because it was quite clear that it wasn't meant as a compliment at all. But all of the "you're so skinny" and "skinny minnie" comments do not bother me at in the least.

So much this...

Well I've been called fatso, fatty, fats, fat girl, fat ass and the like. All caused me to feel shame and sadness and a bunch of other emotions including anger. I so do hope someone calls me skinny, just once would be enough, before I leave this earth. There is a special smile I'm saving for that moment.

finediva- Yes, all the years of negative fatty comments it sure does feel good when you hear the " skinny' word for the first time . Going into a regular store and having the sales staff pay attention to me gave me the biggest cheesiest grin on my face. Feeling invisible was the worst part of being fat. I always felt I was noticed only for my size. You are on your way!

I find it very offensive, pointing out someone's weight was always very taboo in my family. my mom suffered from anorexia when she was young, so we just didn't go there. I don't mind comments about how a look, but the straight identification of my weight gets on my nerves a bit.

Hell no, I don't mind being called "Skinny"! I'm not actually skinny yet, but I'm getting there... I do try to avoid using that word around my young daughter, though. I've told her that even though we joke about my getting "skinny", I'm not really trying to get to that. I'm trying to get to a "healthier weight". Don't want to give her body-image issues.

@Bandora. Thanks for the encouragement. Yes, I also feel I was noticed or not noticed for my size. Interestingly enough, now that I have lost some weight a friend of mine is constantly saying how pretty I look. I haven't taken offense, because I really don't believe she has any malicious intent, but makes me wonder if she didn't think I was pretty before.

No offense taken...even when it's in the form of "too skinny", "skinny Minnie", "how'd you get so skinny?"or even "skinny bitch". I consider them all compliments and it beats the silent, non-comments people never said to my face, but we're thinking, when I was fat.

Finediva, you and I are the same height and almost the same starting weight. You say your friend calls you "pretty" now, but you're not sure if you like it or not. Ummm, maybe you dont realize how much a 46 lb weight loss on a 5'3 body is !! It's ALOT !!! And it can make a huge difference in every dept, but yes the first place the weight comes off is usually the face. Maybe you're being called "pretty" now because its just more obvious ! Just sayin '.........

@@pink dahlia. Yes, even if I'm frustrated by my slow loss, I know it's a lot, because I have gone down several sizes. It's just that even at 230 pounds, I always thought I was an attractive woman. Talk about self confidence, right. But, I have to say I do enjoy seeing my reflection in the mirror. I see the "improvement" and I understand others do so. So, have you stabilized at 160lbs or do you plan to keep going?Congrats on the loss, I so hope to get there.

I'm not offended but I am still uncomfortable being called skinny, or thin, or small. It's my issue..no one else's. And most people don't think saying you are skinny is offensive the way saying someone is heavy can be.

I hope that it will be less offensive than hearing I have, "Such a pretty face." :) I think intent is everything. I can't wait to find out!

And you look beautiful.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
