Does anyone else hate the way they feel after they eat

Recommended Posts

Liana526,,..i agree with everything you said. .going out to eat with my family is a nightmare! I miss just being able to sit and eat normally with them... I hate that I cannot have a normal meal I am still on soft foods and will be until a week from Tuesday when I can actually start eating chicken like a normal person ..I am terrified that I won't like it anymore like I did with eggs... I did not think that it would be like this for me because my daughter had the same surgery and she has been eating normal food without any problems she never vomited she drinks tons of Water and seems to be doing fantastic she has lost 85 pounds in 8 months... Of course mine couldn't be normal I figured I'd have problems I always have problems... The worst is I know I'm going to lose all my hair because I cannot drink Protein Shakes I'm going to be a bald wrinkly looking person... I try to eat Protein to prevent that but all I can eat is fish and some cheese and I have discovered that I love potatoes and I know I shouldn't eat as many as I do but its the only thing that makes me feel normal... I can go to a restaurant and eat a baked potato probably all of maybe 3 or 4 spoons of it but at least I'm eating something on my plate... I'm hoping when I can eat chicken at least I can order some sort of chicken and look halfway normal I can pick at it and get more protein in because I have always loved any kind of chicken... So I'm hoping I don't sabotage my weight loss by eating potatoes but right now it's all that I can eat that makes me feel okay plus potatoes make me be able to have bowel movements don't ask me why it's always been that way but this has been my saving grace when it comes to that ..I have not had to take a laxative since my surgery which of course its only been 7 weeks but still I know girls that have had nothing but problems once I ate some potatoes I went like a normal person... I know we'll all be happy in the end when we're smaller and able to move around and after were allowed to have any thing we want to eat within reason... Everyone seems to mention sugar as a problem I can that's a problem because I can eat sugar I actually sucked on a piece the kids candy the other day I know I'm bad but it was so good... I am type 2 diabetic but I have a problem where if I do not get sugars I become hypoglycemic and bottom out... The two weeks I did not touch any sugar my blood sugar was in the low 60 s almost to the 50 S & almost passed out so I was allowed to bring in some sugar the doctor said he rather me use natural sugar than to use sweeteners in the first place artificial sweeteners I mean... I wish everyone luck with this I know it's just the learning experience and in time will all be ok and look fabulous!

I've lost my love of food!

It feels like a chore to eat and I only want to eat mushy stuff and drink water/tea/protein all day.

It will pass, but at least I'm not a huge food addict anymore. Now I think of what is healthier to put in my tiny tummy and what will give me the most bang for my buck so to speak.

It will be 5 months for me next week. I used to feel that what for awhile. It has recently (within the last few weeks) gotten better. I used to dread eating because of how it made my chest and belly feel. I didn't know if something was wrong. If I was eating too fast, not chewing up my food enough or what. It's not so bad now though. If I feel it now, it's usually because I am rushing to eat. It will get getter just hang in there.

I can eat anything I want. Coffe in the morning no problem. There are a few foods I no longer enjoy as much such as eggs. Focus on the positive stuff. I look great and get compliments many times a day.

I would like to say again that I appreciate everyone's honesty.

Throughout this process, I've been thinking how nice it will be not to have to worry/think about food anymore. Not to wonder, "What are we having for dinner? What do I want?" Not to want things. Not to want Chinese food or cake because I saw someone at work have some.

Not to have thoughts of food consume my time and mind.

When I was given the post-op diets, it was a relief to know I was having liquid meals for a while. I have been counting calories and planning meals for so long that I was looking forward to structured nutrition that I didn't have to think about.

I must be more ready for this than I thought ( I'm getting sleeved Monday). I cannot remember what it was like (so many years ago) to not think about food. Like when you were a kid and you ate dinner because you were hungry and then stopped when you were full. You never thought about it.

What has food done for me? Nothing. It has made me sick and unhealthy.

It will be nice for food to be just food again.

I am 10 months out from a sleeve. I eat all foods but just smaller amounts.

The best thing is now I control the food. The food does not control me.

I have my life back.

See I'm still struggling with food controlling me, and it's not because I'm craving or wanting something...24/7 I'm always trying to figure out what to fix that doesn't make me want to gag. I waste so much food "trying" things, in hopes that it is something I can swallow without gagging. I'm really struggling. To be honest, I wish I never had to even look at food again. But I also want to live, so.....

It gets better.

Try shrimp. My sleeve loves shrimp.

tuna salad, seafood salad, chicken salad all made "wet".

Scrambled eggs with cheese.< /p>

Ricotta with 1 or 2 tablespoons of marinara sauce with a layer of shredded mozzarella warmed in the microwave.

Cottage cheese with Salad Dressing

Hummus

Cheese sticks.

Dannon light and fit Greek yogurt.

Ham and cheese roll ups.

Keep trying new things.

I eat something Protein every 3 to 4 hours. Not much but enough for fuel.

I eat to live not live to eat.

Good luck.

Yep - I'm trying to wrap my head around that food = fuel thing. It's that and only that.

I'm not sure if you are complaining...haha! I take the feeling as a blessings and good "problem". It's part of making your body relearn what is acceptable. Once you get your head in that game you will be well on your way to the new lifestyle we all signed up for.

@@Luana526 as I say..."this too shall pass"...

right now you guys are in the breaking in period...it won't last...

Everyone is different, so it's hard to explain to some how they will react when not all do the same.

All of us, I think, had to tread lightly when we first started eating "real" food... broccoli made me throw up...now all is good...

I did have to find my way with some foods, but, in general I can eat anything I choose. I don't choose, junk or high carbs like potatoes, bread, etc on a regular basis, as that's not good.

I also have a problem with Water for some reason, used to drink it by the gallon, but now I have found that Decaf iced tea is the one I turn to on a regular basis.

Please just give yourselves time to adjust, smaller portions, eating slower, learning what you can eat is all part of the process, and it IS worth it, promise! :)

I agree with BigGirlPanties...give it time. Eventually you will find what works for you and what doesn't.

@@Luana526 not everyone could "tell" you all those things, because it is different for each of us. I order off the kids menu or order an appetizer and 80% of the time get a to-go box...only 80% because a lot of times DH will polish off what I leave LOL.

After surgery, I had to give up my morning coffee...it hurt my tummy. I was afraid to try it again, but several months later, I can once again enjoy my morning cup of Joe. I still have a problem with plain Water, but some of the flavor enhancers have really helped with that.

My Vitamins made me sick and my doctor had me hold off on some of them until I could handle a pill/capsule. I use Calcium Chews now, because the berry chewable ones still make me nauseaus.

My biggest problem is remembering to eat slow. I'll be fine until all of a sudden I'm not. You just can't "go back" to the full point..just have to wait it out. Give yourselves some time. As your new tummy heals and you can add more variety, it will be easier. Look forward to things like your morning cup of coffee - it may not happen today or tomorrow, but hopefully you will soon. (While I couldn't always drink hot coffee in the morning, I was able to drink a Chike Iced coffee shake...yummy)

Good luck to everyone!

Don't know whether to laugh or b***h-slap some of you.

Do you actually expect that your post-op experience 3 weeks post-op, 6 weeks post-op, 10 weeks post-op ... etc. is what your life is going to be like forever?

Have you not noticed how much your experience has already changed from when you were more newly operated on?

Why wouldn't you expect your enjoyment of food to change? For those of you who think you'll always hate food, go find some threads about how people 2 years out are struggling to lose the 10-20 pounds they just gained because they're enjoying food too much.

My major point is this: Every stage of this journey is different than the ones before or after it. My "job" during this journey is to learn what I can from the stage I'm in, maximize the benefits of that stage, and minimize the threats of that stage.

And yes, of course, we all like to rant sometimes. But jeez ... if temporarily missing the joy of food is really so terrible, then go buy some Ben & Jerry's and slurp that down.

Sorry, but this rant comes to you from a 68-year-old who wishes she'd had the opportunity to change her life 30 years ago with VSG surgery like some of you guys now have a chance to do.

P.S. Early on, while your stomach is still swollen from surgery and hasn't calmed down yet and completely healed, that stuffed feeling in your chest *could* be (emphasis on COULD be) that you've eaten too much and that food is stacking up in the lower part of your esophagus.

This is something that lapbanders have been known to do.

It takes a while to know when it's time to quit eating. In my experience, waiting for a "full" sensation is not the way to do it. By the time you feel full, you've probably already eaten a bit too much.

Would love to hear from others who are further out post-op about their take on this.

I really hate when people come on here just to say "stop whining!" The purpose of these particular forums is to compare experiences with others so you don't feel alone. If what we're talking about doesn't refer to you, it's really best to keep your laughing and bitch slapping fantasies to yourself. It absolutely doesn't serve any purpose.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
