Almost cried today

Recommended Posts

So I live in Japan, and it's a beautiful country but every time I step outside of my apartment All I see are beautiful and skinny Japanese girls. It does get depressing at times. But, on to my story.

I had to go to the lady clinic today, and after an hour and a half of waiting for a 5 second chat with the doctor for my refills, she says the nurse will need to check my blood pressure. Not so bad right?? Well that is actually the depressing part of my visits. My blood pressure is fine, but they always have to get the next size up on the arm thing to check my BP. And now that I write this I feel stupid for getting so upset over that but it's a little embarrassing to have this tiny size 0 Japanese girl attempt to take my bp only to try to shove my fat arm into the wrap and then have to go get a bigger size because it's too small.

I'm having my gastric sleeve surgery in December and I'm just ready to start my life over and not get so emotional when something small happens.

Sorry about the rant.

you can rant all you want. That is what we are here for. I completely understand. I have the same problem with the blood pressure cuff but they have to put it around my forearm instead of up on the bicep. I have just finished all my requirements and am waiting to hear from insurance and then it's a go. so hang in there.

Ranting is a great thing. It will help you remember in the weeks leading up to surgery why you are going through with it. It will especially help during the hellacious weeks before when you are on the liquid only diet. You are about to experience one of the most amazing things. You will get to rediscover your body and what it is capable of. Before too long, you will be able to get your blood preassure taken on a normal cuff. It will be amazing.

I highly recommend you check out my blog. The link is below. There is a series of posts on there about how I prepare for my surgery that I think would be very helpful for you. If there is anything else I can do to help or any questions I can answer, please let me know.

Oh honey...I feel your pain. I live in France, where they must keep the overweight people locked up behind bars...you rarely see anyone over a size 8 walking around here. It's a culture that is OBSESSED with women's beauty and I was such an outsider until I had my surgery. When I was fat, I could literally feel the disdain coming from the French as they looked at me...be it a physician or a shopkeeper...they all had something to say.

Now that I'm more acceptable, from a societal point of view, I really don't care what they think. I did this for my own health and comfort, and less to be "acceptable" in terms of physicality. But I do enjoy being looked at in a positive way now, and certainly am glad people are nicer to me now.

I totally understand what you are saying, however. It is so freeing when I go back to the States and feel that my body type is the norm.

Trevor I definitely love Japan but I miss my independence.

And Parisshel I've heard France is a little obsessed with weight.

All cultures are bad with woman's self images...I guess you really don't think about other cultures until something like this comes to the forefront...

Good luck on your surgery...keep in touch... we've ALL been there in one way or another.

I also needed the large cuff for a long time, but it will be so sweet when you eventually need the small cuff as I did last week. Even the adult regular is too big for an accurate reading. I now need the small cuff and when my doctor said this, I wanted to shout it to the world. Hang in there GF, it will happen for you!

Honestly, the blood pressure cuff things is one of the things I look forward to solving the most! It is right up there with airplane seat belts for me. I unfortunately was blessed with my grandmothers arms as we call them. They are and have been very large and I am always arguing gently with nurses about the best way to get an accurate blood pressure read on me. They never seem to want to believe that their cuff and machine simply is not going to get it so therefore they always want to try at least twice before moving to my lower arm.nand by the way, it actually hurts sometimes!

Anyway, I think I will do the dance of joy when I lose enough weight to have my bat wings removed permanently. I know I have a long way to go but I am going to be dancing! Good luck on your surgery!

@@parisshel I'm sorry, but your first sentence had me laughing!! I know it's not something funny especially when you are living around people with that type of thinking.

I was just picturing in my head a bunch of skinny mini's trying to force the biggin's behind bars...and I needed a good laugh today!

People in general need to be more tolerant of others, and more importantly we need to be more loving to ourselves.

We might not be a size 0 we might not ever we might not even be a size 8 and I don't know about you all but having surgery for me was for health first and foremost and if I can use the smaller blood pressure cuff now and fit into jeans and plane seats comfortably those are all bonuses!!! :)

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
