Regarding the first 10 days post op. What were u guys allowed to have ? Im only allowed Water, chicken nd meat froth, diet Jello, and apple juice.

Any other options ? Cause im sooo sick of this diet.

I know, right?? Mine is fourteen days - all liquids post op. I'm drinking low fat cream Soups, waters flavored with Crystal Light, and sugar free Popsicles. Not too much variety on this stage. I also have to get my Proteins in, so each day I try a sample of the ones I purchased, including Isopure, Premiere Protein, Un.Jury, and Syntrax Nectars. One week left then I go to puréed! :)

This is kind of a gross analogy, but picture finding your stomach lying in the street all beat up with a bat and needing 30 stitches. Would you expect that stomach to handle meat and veggies and apple pie? Nope. Not even hamburgers or fig bars. It is going to need fluids and pureed foods for a minute until it gets some functionality back.

Go easy on your new tummy. It has been through a lot. Your new stomach is your new boss now. You will find out soon enough. The hamburgers and Wendy's chili will still be there next month. Tell your taste buds to scram for a while. This is not pleasure time. It is muddle through the first month, then regular foods will be on the near horizon.

From what I know about my own instructions and what I have seen others post, the process varies - a lot. Mine was full liquids at day three. Purees at week 1 1/2, soft foods at 2 1/2 weeks and whole foods at 4 1/2 weeks. Not ashamed to say that my first stop on the way home from that visit, was Wendy's - and yes, I got the chili.

By 10 days out, I was doing more solid soups...cream of chicken, cream of broccoli. Also watery oatmeal and other purees. I did a lot of baby food dinners once I figured out to add salt and pepper. Man, baby food is really tasteless!!!

My first week was liquids only, my second week was purees, my third week was mashed up meals (regular food, even off menu at restaurants...bought myself a little hand-operated chopper). The mashed foods lasted for about 2.5 weeks until I was brave enough to try well chewed solid foods. According to my doctor's plan, I could have gone to solid foods in my 4th week.

There is an incredibly bright BRIGHT spot in all this! I have no cravings! ZERO! And I'm doing my recovery in Memphis surrounded by my Louisiana family who has sampled every Memphis "delicacy" during their stay with me: Rendevous Ribs, Gus' Fried Chichen, BB King's for music and dancing- you name it, they are eating it. I have not wanted a bit of it! Their next stop: Dyer's Hamburgers or Westy's. They are sitting here trying to make up their minds. Friday, it's Miss Alcenia's. Me? Not bothered a bit, and I'm thankful. Some of my old faves are striking me as a little repulsive. But I can't wait to get to puréed.

I was on Clear Liquids for the first day in the hospital, then advanced to full liquids by the time I was discharged. Full liquids for the 1st 3 weeks, then puree for a week, then mush and I am starting to introduce solids. My full liquid go-to items were Jello, diluted pudding with Protein powder mixed in, Protein shakes with greek yogurt blended in, diluted yogurt, cream Soups. I got some of the Gerber multigrain baby Cereal as well - apple/sweet potato - that mixed with milk and some Protein Powder to the right texture was pretty good. My next stage go-to foods have been pasta-less lasagna - cooked chicken breast, ricotta, and a couple of tablespoons of spaghetti sauce zipped down into dip texture in the Ninja blender; tuna salad made with albacore, homemade zucchini relish, and lowfat olive oil mayo - also zipped down into dip texture in the Ninja; cottage cheese, eggs cooked anyway I like (mostly poached and over easy), undiluted yogurt. Hummus is good. My sister just picked the last of the season's squash from her garden, so I'll get to enjoy some of that in the coming days.

I'm on purée so I can have anything in that form. MD said to pulse some tuna or chicken breast in a food processor and add some fat free mayo as an example. Actually had to eat some tuna in order to be discharged yesterday. Good luck to you!!!

I am 2 days post-op and my "meals" consist of 2 oz clear liquid with calories and sips of non-calorie Clear liquids in between. So, for instance today my "meals" have been 2 oz of Isopure RTD and in between I've been drinking Water, hot tea and SF Powerade. SF popsicles are a nice treat! I know this will get old and cream of wheat is going to taste like heaven next week! LOL

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
