I am excited for all of my fellow November sleevers!

Where are you from and what kind of pre-op diet has your surgeon put you on?

I'm from Kelowna BC, Canada.

My diet seems a little extreme to me but here it is:

~ 4-6 boost diabetic

~ Water, Water and more water

~ flavored water as long as there are no calories (ie. Crystal light)

I'll be doing this for FOUR weeks starting October 30th until surgery.

I'm a little sad that I won't be celebrating my 30th birthday in Vegas (November 8th), but I am having friends over this weekend and we will have a good time! I have been waiting a long time for this and um so happy this next chapter of my life will be starting soon!

Sheena :-)

I started my pre-op diet today, a week early. I am scheduled to start my pre-op diet 10/28/14, but voluntarily chose to start a week early because I can not take a chance of my surgery being aborted. My liver enzymes have been elevated for some time and I really need to work on getting this liver as healthy as it can before surgery. I had to coordinate way too many things to keep my family and household running smoothly while I am down. Fortunately, the pre-op diet is rather manageable. The hardest part will be no carbs, sugar, caffeine, and all of the other good stuff no longer being an option.

This is my office's pre-op diet: (please keep in mind I had to purchase the proti / bariatrix packets from surgeon's office)

Breakfast- 1 packet of Proti/ Bariatrix

Mid morning- 1 packet Proti/ Bariatrix

lunch- 1 packet Proti/ bariatrix PLUS 2oz lean meat-or-1/2 cup non-fat cottage cheese-or- 2 eggs cooked w/out fat -or- another packet of Proti/ Bariatrix

Mid afternoon 1 packet of Proti/ Bariatrix

dinner 2 oz lean meat + 1 serving starch + 1 serving fruit + unlimited vegetables

Plus unlimited non starchy vegetables are allowed throughout the day as needed to help combat hunger. It is also required to drink 64 oz plus of Water daily.

I am fortunate unlimited vegetables are allowed to keep hunger at bay. I also made sure to take all of my measurements this morning and weighed myself too. It almost made me sick to know how big I am in hard numbers. I look forward to watching those numbers slowly decrease into normal ranges. I am working on packaging up all of the garbage food in the house for my sons and putting it in the garage. They can have it, but I do not want it in here tempting me and calling my name when I am feeling weak!

Here goes nothing! One step closer to surgery.

Finished my last appointment with my surgeon!

Tomorrow us last preop class. Can't wait! Everytime I'm there they check my blood pressure again because it's so high when I get there ... It's just stress I want this part over. Kaiser is comprehensive but it's slot to take in sometimes!

I have an excellent doc to share I'll scan in the am:)

What pre-op testing are y'all getting? I'm not sure what my doctor requires... I have my pre-op next Monday, 10/27. I just figured I'd pay my upfront costs, have some blood work and find out what time I have to be at the hospital on the 4th!

Angierue - most doctors expect you to do a liquid or some kind - 10-20 days pre-op. This diet is set in place in order to shrink your liver and mentally and physically prepare you for the surgery and your journey afterwards.

My pre-op diet is 10 days (which means Protein shakes and full liquids - no sugars or fruit).

Oh I've been doing that already! I thought there was done other testing y'all were talking about. I started full liquids last Wednesday. And was doing a pretty strict pre-op diet before that as well but I need to lose 38lbs before surgery. I have 8 to go so they put me on the liquids to get me there quick!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
