I had e-mailed penny for info to join you but I am scheduled next week so opted not to....(SORRY Penny I did not e-mail back my computer was down with a virus and I had to have it fixed I could not check or send e-mail reply back ) I am wondering about alcohol I am due to go on a special vacation with my daughter and mother Nov 11th -15 th at disney for the ABC super soap weekend. We go every year.. I know dinner and pleasure Island is definate. Can I drink wine? Can I have One -two -Three glasses or no???

I am scheduled for surgery 10/19 as I have posted but even if the answer is no for the trip ....Can I later on ???

I had so much wanted to meet you all in Las Vegas but I could not go away twice in one month due to my business and since I am scheduled 10/ 19 with Dr. Rumbaut I simply could not do both.

My daughter is soooo looking forward to the super soap weekend or I would have opted out this year due to surgery. But maybe not what do you all think Surgery 10/19 super soap 11/13

I have found that post band drinking is a shock. I can get happy on two sometimes only one drink. Depends on how strong it is made. And yes you do have to be more careful when drinking cause as we all know it can impair your judgement at times and you could do damage to your band. My rule of thumb is when drinking while being banded is to drink one drink then have a glass of Water. Helps flush out the liquor and keeps you from getting dehydrated and avoids a hangover the next day. If I eat while drinking I only put enough food on the small plate and eat from that plate only. I don't ask for seconds at all. I munch on little things that go down easy. If I slip and eat something I know I shouldn't then I just stop drinking till it passes.

The whole thing to drinking and being banded is the empty calorie issue and potentially doing damage to your band. Keep those two things in mind and enjoy the libation. LOL!!!

I would be very careful with drinking so soon after your surgery. If you are eating mushy foods, a glass of wine might be all right. I wouldn't try it on an empty stomach, though. Your system probably won't tolerate as much alcohol as before surgery and it might still be extra sensitive.

As far as drinking later on, it is not prohibited, but can irritate your stomach. The one thing that I held on to as long as possible was the early committment to eat right and follow my new banding plan. I hadn't even tried eating bread or noodles until this past month. (I am 4 months out.) Keeping that initial motivation going as long as possible has been very successful for me. Now that I have given myself permission to try more foods and treat myself occassionally, I have to fight the temptation to over indulge.

Take it step-by-step and you will do fine with all the new choices you will need to make in the weeks to come.

I drank this weekend in Vegas for the first time since banding and I will say it was definately a different affect on me. I did get an upset tummy from the Margaritas and felt like heartburn..got tipsier quicker too but that could be from not drinking a stitch of alcohol in such a long time..

I was drinking probably within a month of my surgery. Started with just about 1/2 glass of wine and still to this day don't drink more than 2. Just like Michelle, if I have margaritas I do get a little heartburn but I used to get that before with them. I think they are too acidic. I usually take a tums or two with them. The most important thing to remember is to limit yourself before you get to far. One of the reasons I wanted the band was too not have to change so many things in my life and I enjoy a glass of wine or two a week with a good meal or good company. Margaritas and stronger drinks are very occasional, depending on the situation. Once banded we really do become "cheap drunks" so do be careful but enjoy yourself too.
