Hello to all:

I am getting prepared for my upcoming surgery on the 21st. and would like some info on Protein powders. Would like some ideas on what to buy.

Got some Gatorade and chicken broth and apple juice.< /p>

Also some Gas X.

Will have a long plane ride back home, so want to be as comfortable as possible.

Thanks to all for your support.

Ciao,

Sharbythesea

I got this information from the nutritionist I went to see back when I was making my rounds to all the pre-surgery doctors. I ordered some of the samples to give me an idea of what I was really going to like. The website is

Glad to hear your date is coming soon, I am still waiting for insurance approval:sick

I first bought GNC unflavored Protein powder. Then I tried Sam's Club's "Naturade Soy" unflavored p.p. It was about $15 less, tasted and blended better, and had more Vitamins and supplements in it. (Sam's is our local wholesale club - like costco, and you don't get stuck having to pay shipping and handling.)

I found Mylicon Baby Gas Drops (Walmart has a generic version) worked better than Gas-X. Get Tylenol liquid for aches and pains. Robitussin (liquid) cough Syrup suppresses coughs (which you won't want for a few days!).

PamRM advised using an abdominal binder and pillow for the plane ride home. Leatha folds and tapes a flat sheet to hold against her tummy. A heating pad is wonderful for your back, shoulders, tummy, everywhere. Let the airline know you've had surgery, so you can preboard. Get and use your pain meds. Wear something loose and easy to get on and off. I wore a Mexican wedding dress. Wear easy slip on shoes. The airport will have you take them off to go through security. Whatever you're packing, cut it in half. You won't need it. Pack light and don't lug and tug.

Crystal light, Propel Water, and Oceanspray Cranberry Light (mixed 50/50 w/ water) are good to drink after you get back home.

Yoiu'll do great! Best of luck to you!:D

I loved unjury Protein powder

Here's the web site

www.unjury.com

It tasted great and blended well. If I had it to do over again, I would only order the vanilla and chocolate varieties. They make a wicked Protein smoothie (1 cup skim milk, 1 banana, 1 scoop Unjury, 1 TBL of Splenda and 1 tsp vanilla extract 1/12 cups ice in a blender) I lived off of those for my 2 weeks of full-liquids.

Oh - and the chocolate also tastes really good in sugar free, Fat Free Instant Chocolate Pudding!!!

Good luck to you.

I went with the unjury, too. I make the chocolate with milk for hot cocoa, just don't heat it too much. I used the unflavored in Soup. Lately, when I travel I take a packet, buy a plastic bottle of milk, dump out a half cup or so to fit the powder and shake the Protein mix in the bottle. It works great.

I also got Isopure liquid at GNC. It looks like koolaid and tastes pretty good. I get a coating of Protein on my tongue sometimes. It was great for traveling because it doesn't need mixing or refrigeration. I took it on our camping trips and motorcycle runs. It has 40 grams of protein in 20 oz. for $3.50, so you don't need much.

I really don't like Protein drinks at all and these 2 worked well for me.

I did not bother with the Protein Powder. Too much fuss & mess for me. I just drank the Atkins Protein Drinks or the Hoods Carb countdown dairy beverage that is loaded with Protein. The protein drinks in the can were much easier for my hectic lifestyle and taste pretty damn good, no chalky taste. Trader Joes if you live by one has several great tasting canned protein drinks very reasonably priced that you can buy individually , thats what I did. Also try and take some adult strenght liquid tylenol ( wal Mart or Sa-von)with you for the ride home, it came in handy for me for the ride home along with the gas X I was very comfortable , and since you are going to Ortiz..take a book or something to read for the wait during the pre op tests you will be waiting alot between tests. Popsicles and Jello are great Clear Liquids atleast you feel like you are eating something other then just drinking. Good Luck to you..hope it all goes smoothly for you :D

Wow, what beautiful flowers! I love flowers, I have a yard full, and I have so many plants around my pool that the first thing people say is "I have never seen so many different plants in one place." Great picture, thanks for sharing with us.

Thanks so much for the compliment! That picture was taken on August 31st, this year, and those are my happy birthday flowers.

I turned 62, although I don't feel old, my body tells me otherwise!

I am hoping to enjoy the rest of my life, without carrying around an extra 100lbs every day!

Ciao,

Sharon

Good for you Sharon! You certainly make 62 look GOOD! I know I feel so much younger than my 50 now. I'm able to get out and enjoy life that passed me by way too much for way too long. I'm so proud of you!:)

Gorgeous picture! The flowers aren't bad either... Let me just say that you're an awfully young looking 62!

My mom is 62 as well, and she's a little bit interested in having a band placed herself, I'll have to share your story with her, maybe it'll help her have the confidence to really consider it.

Good Luck to you, I wish you a easy trip, a successful surgery, and speedy recovery!

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
