Weight loss time

Recommended Posts

Hi! I am 8 weeks out today from DS. I have lost 49 pounds. I feel like I should have lost more. Has anyone else had similar results or better/worse they can share? I still have at least 51 to go. Thanks!!

This is a joke right? Not happy with 6 lbs a week?

Not that I'm not happy. I'm not sure if that is a good amount for this surgery. Am I on track? That's all. Sorry to bother you but you didn't need to respond like that. ????

Hi there, I've not had surgery yet but 49 pounds in 8 weeks I can only hope to lose that in a short time. You are doing GREAT! Keep up the good work.

I will be getting married couple months after my surgery, I am waiting on getting a wedding dress till then also. Wow 49 pounds 6 weeks you are an inspiration to me!

I think you are actually ahead of the game! You are doing great. Keep in mind that it does slow down so when it does, as long as you are still losing or maintaining, life is good. And, you may possibly have stalls. Which means that you are doing everything right but you aren't losing any weight. If this happens, don't panic. That is also normal.

I think it's amazing you have lost half of your excess weight in 2 months! It slows down closer you get to goal...just keep following your program and you will reach goal.

i don't think @@2muchfun meant any harm with his comment above

its just that 49 lbs is great in 2 months :)

so he "might" have been alittle surprised by your comment -_-

he's a good egg ;)

i see him around the neighborhood sometimes and he always smiles, and waves :)

then again, he's just a guy :o

only kidding dude - you are aces :D

8 weeks out from DS. I lost 49 pounds - feel I should have lost more

@@iammomof3 - as everyone "above" ;) saids - and the people to follow - you are doing amazing!!!

49 lbs in a couple of months!!!

I "think" some newbies might have wayyyy too high expectations on how much and how quickly they will lose

but I can see B) see you are a smart cookie and are thrilled with your weight loss :)

You are way ahead of the game - so happy for you

but as OP said, you probably won't lose those last 51 lbs in a couple of months

you might have a stall or two - and your weight loss will probably slow down

but thats ok - the weight will come off!!

I promise!!!! would i lie to you"? :D "

quick little "joke" 1rst day PO - my mom asked me if my underwear fell to the floor :o :D LOL

I lost about 20 lbs those first couple of months, i was extatic (msp  ?)

keep up the good work for the rest of your healthier, happier, longer life

who deserves it more? ;)

49 lbs down

woohoo

good luck

kathy

congrats

I lost 45lbs. in the first 9 weeks. So I think you're doing fine. :) Think about coming to a meeting if you'd like to speak w/other DSers.

Proud Grammy you are so right! My expectations are too high. It's like being on a diet before surgery, not eating a Hershey bar one day and wondering how much weight I lost. Totally unrealistic I know. ????

Postop I have been to some meetings at NYP but there were no ds'rs so I might try Lenox Hill. Thanks for the advice!

Here's the link for Lenox Hill. I'm going to try & get there this month as haven't been since last October. The DSers usually stay in the general meeting for a time & then move to another room to talk on our own.

I'm averaging about 4.7 pounds a week since surgery -- and I'll take that every week! I expect that gradually it will decrease to about 2 per week, and I'll have to train myself to be happy with that too. It's going to be a hard adjustment, but "reality" is a hard pill to swallow. Too bad we can't just crush it up and mix it with some Protein powder!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
