I just saw the pictures from my endoscopy/stricture

Recommended Posts

I had told my drs over and over I thought I had a stricture and they would not do an endoscopy. Just kept telling me that nothing like that showed up on the Upper GI.

I can see the stricture and it is very closed off looking and it looks like there is something stuck there. It looks like one of my pills that had gotten me admitted into the hospital twice.

It shows the dilation of the stricture which is sooooo much larger looking than before the dilation.

Unbelievable. There is no wonder I couldn't eat and could barely drink!

I was very angry after the endoscopy when they told me I had a stricture, but at the same time very grateful they were able to do something about it.

Now looking at the pictures it just magnifies the fact that they weren't listening to me about how I was feeling.

Pik, that's what I am dealing with now. At 11 weeks out, I cannot tolerate meats and mainly have soft foods. Anytime I eat or take meds, it feels like something is stuck and I get a nauseous feeling. I've had an upper GI and an abdominal ct scan which were negative. I asked my surgeon specifically about the possibility I may have a stricture and he said he didn't think so because it didn't show on the upper GI. I've read and you are proof that the upper GI doesn't always show a stricture. It's so frustrating! Right now, I'm trying a blood pressure medication that is supposed to relax the muscles of the esophagus because my Dr. is thinking I may have spasms. I still believe it is a stricture! I don't understand why surgeons with so much experience will delay performing a procedure that could bring relief, especially since I had complications post op already---two hernias resulting in 3 surgeries within 2 weeks.

I don't get it either, and I was in the hospital as an inpatient twice and they could have just done it. They only did it for me when I got to the point where I couldn't eat or drink and looked worse than a dead person. If I were you, I would insist. It went on with me from soon after my surgery up until a couple of weeks ago. I could not believe the difference in what it was and what it is now. There was no wonder I couldn't eat!!!

They thought I was having either a functional or mechanical issue as well. I was very bad off to the point there were talking feeding tubes!

I wish you well, and be your own advocate.

Some drs are ignorant asses. Mine refused to give me the one pain med that works on me after telling him nothing else works. So he made me suffer in pain after surgery.

I'm having issues with foods getting stuck but I know ifI tell them (dr and nut) they will just say to eat smaller bites and wait in between bites and leave it at that. I'm getting so frustrated with this. Eating is a pain in the ass anyway so I'll just drink my Protein instead.

Did you already have a stricture once? I can't remember if it was you or someone else.

Mine has gotten closed up again. Not like it was but capsules are feeling stuck. I have an appointment tomorrow and I am going to talk to him about it. The nausea is coming back also. I left a message on Monday and no one ever called me back.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
