Is everyone ready?? Tomorrow is the Surgery Eve for many of us! OMG OMG!

I finished my 2-wk pre-op diet today. So I went out to the store and got all kinds of sugar-free things I am allowed on my 1-day pre-op Clear Liquids and the several days post-op. I ordered some powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury today, it should be here about the time I start needing it.

Hubby and I went out for a date night tonight -- went to the Atlanta Shakespeare Tavern. LOVE That place! I thought it would be hard, since I'm not eating, but it wasn't bad at all. I brought in my Mio flavoring to add to my Water, and I drank 3 glasses while I was laughing my butt off at the great performance. I have an NSV already - I had 3 people compliment me on my beautiful new red dress, and it felt like heaven. I'm so used to being ignored, and wow, that felt so good...

I have to work in the morning (I had scheduled to be off), but after that little chore is done I'm going to spend the day straightening up the house and making ready for post-surgery. I need to still drop off the script for my post-op pain meds, and I'd like to have time to go get my post-op Vitamins.

I'm a little bit freaked, but mostly trying not to think about it. Hope all of you are doing great, packing your bags for the hospital, and getting yourselves siked up for the next chapter in your lives!!!

by the way - my son is sick! - Head cold... Im eating airborn Vitamin C... spraying the house with lysol... not touching him... washing my hands.... so what if we are sick at surgery time? anyone know?

3 of my kids had strep about a week ago. Doc put me on antibiotics just in case. I keep reading that if you don't have a fever or lung congestion you should be fine for surgery even with a cold. I hope you didn't catch it though.

Hello Jz0917, I am going to the hospital at 8 am on the 26th. I think i am more anxious right now. When I start the prep in the hospital, i think that is when I will get nervous. I was trying to decide if I should take my backpack or my suitcase. I think the suitcase is a little too much though. I am leaning towards my pick backpack. Its silly isn't it? I also have to carry my cpap machine too.

I am not sick of the liquid because I am allowed to eat one meal per day and extra non starchy veggies if need be. I usually do a protein(meat) and salad for lunch of dinner. I do not have any idea as to how much weight I lost since Aug 11th but I can definitely tell a difference.

What to pack? I will take three house dresses, toothbrush, gas meds, deodorant, undies, phone(charger) and some reading material. I think that is good. Oh, and I definitely need to have THE RED ENVELEOPE. It has my wrist band and it will be my blood type indicator. I think that will be all.

almost forgot that I needed chargers and ipad. Lol. Thanks :-) and I am a mother if six which includes two sets of twins! My youngest set is 5 years old and starting kindergarten soon. Congrats on your choice and look forward to chatting with you on the other side of this weight coin!

I'm in my hospital room, post surgery. My good friend is staying the night with me while my hubby is home with our kids for the evening.

I seem to be doing ok, pain is managed mostly, been walking some.

The Dr found A hiatal hernia, his depiction was a 3-ish Inch diameter hole. I had no idea that was there! It got fixed, but it seems to be hurting a bit.

I'm not having to rough a time, but I'm finding the night nurse is not my faxv ever... I'm sure it will be ok though. It's just taking forever to get meds, etc.

I seem to be doing ok, and the gas ex has been helping quite a bit. I'm a bit fuzzy headed, and fighting off constantly sleeping from the morphine.

Hope all of you are doing well!

I'm doing really good... Had a little shoulder pain right afterwards, Heating pad worked well... Walked several times before now. Nurse came to the minute when she said she would for pain meds. Ice chips are my best friend. Just very groggy.

Amen on the ice chips! My hospital's medical software crashed last night, so my nurse was being late on meds because they had to do all paper charting. It was a little scary that stuff wasn't written down/passed off right between nurses at shift change last night. I almost got a double-dose of heparin within 2 hrs. My friend caught the error, so it worked out... I'm guessing it wouldn't have hurt me much, but it was different.

I'm back home - I met all the milestones today, and they let me go early. I got home around 4:30 (normally you stay until around 8).

I took at long nap, but now I'm up walking, just took my pain meds... It's been hrs since I had any meds and things were a bit sore on the inside. I'm kinda dreading "eating" my liquids right now without pain meds - not sure what that's going to be like.

My incisions don't seem to be bothering me much yet.

Tomorrow is the super-soft food diet. I can't wait for some pudding or yogurt. Mmmmmm.

Hope everyone is doing good! Would love to hear from you guys!

Hi,

I was able to go home yesterday afternoon. My doctor has a home care nurse come to the house twice before my first office visit with him to make sure we are doing ok. I had an umbilical hernia that was repaired (I knew about it in advance) and I believe all my nausea and vomiting problems stem from that. When I got home, I couldn't hold liquids down, I hadn't passed any gas despite the gas x and the suppository and I didn't feel great, at all. Ended up back at the ER at 3:30 am per my docs instructions. I got more fluids, more pain and nausea medicine intravenously, and even had to get some liquid thamin and magnesium because apparently mine were born low. I am actually feeling better now, 6 hours later, and at home sipping on Protein and walking. My other incision barely hurt which his good, it will take a few weeks for the umbilical area to heal. I hope and pray that I've gotten through the worst of it. Congrats on your sleeves. What lies ahead is very promising!

I just found out what too full feels like. Ouch. I had a 1/2 cup (4 oz) of pudding thinned with 1 oz Protein Drink. Gets in 6 grams of Protein. Also is too much for me right now. Ugh. Eyes are watering.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
