Hives from protein shakes?

Recommended Posts

Help!! I am 2 weeks post op and seem to be developing an allergic reaction to Bariatric Advantage Protein Shakes. I was just having my "dinner" and began itching like crazy. I have raised red bumps/welts and traveling over my body. I took a Benedryl to help me. But my question is, can I suddenly develop and allergy to it? I was never allergic to milk but have noticed even before surgery it was not agreeing to well with my stomach. I had a Syntrax Nectar today and it began on my arms. This has been going on for about 2 days now and just realized it's only after I drink a shake. Has anyone else had this problem?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hey, I haven't had surgery yet but I have has gives from the shakes as well. Do you have an allergy to soy? My doctor found this was my problem with all Protein Shakes. Also, try not to let them sit for too long something happens to the chemicals in them

Hey BandedSister_Lizz,

As far as I know, I'm not allergic to Soy. Well, at least before the surgery. I will have to call my Dr. tomorrow to find out what I can drink. All the Protein powders are brand new so I know that's not an issue. Thanks for the input!!

Much luck with your surgery! It's not all that bad. The worst was the pre op diet! lol..

I don't know if I should consider myself lucky or unlucky but j was just given a surgery day on Thursday so I only have to be on liquids for the next 5 days :) but even this is a KILLeR!!! GL with the Protein Shakes tho! If you find that you have developed an allergy to so try the GNC brand they are gluten and lactose free with no soy product :)

Question:

I developed an awful itch a few days after surgery. I got medicine, i was told I would be feeling great after the first day, and now it's day 2, I've woken up with my eye lids puffy and huge bags under my eyes !

I don't know what exactly my body is reacting to! All I've had is premier shakes and Water and yogurt, if anyone has had this happen, please write back, Ty .

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
