Fill amount Poll

Got my first fill of 1ml at 6 months post-op. My Doctor says if you are still losing 1 to 1 1/2 pounds per week, there is no reason for a fill. I'm almost 18 months post-op and have had 2.6ml in my band for 6 months. I'm going in for my 18 month check-up on 6/19 and am considering a slight fill, maybe to 3ml? I've hit a plateau and having a hard time shedding these last 40 pounds.

I am looking forward to my first fill and am anxious to hear how much the average fill is for the 4cc band.

Well, I finally had my first fill today. He put in 1.5ccs. He normally puts in 1, but since I have had NO restriction and can eat ANYTHING he went ahead and put in more. Yeah!

My first fill was 1.5cc - then I had it all taken out a week later since I couldn't even keep Water down. I was headed on vacation and really didn't want another emergency visit so I was completely unfilled. Just got back from getting .8cc He put 1cc in but knowing what to look for this time, I could feel water not getting down again so he took a little out. So far I've been able to eat, but I have been getting full a lot faster :(

I just had my first fill on 05/15/07. My Doctor usually does 1.5cc but gave me 2cc since I had no restriction at all. It's been 3 days since my fill and I still don't feel any difference, I can eat anything but I'm trying to stay with lean cuisines until I can go for another fill.

My next fill will only be .5cc and I sure hope it makes a differance.

I was looking forward to my 1st fill, even though I didn't think I would get to the "sweet spot" with the first fill, I thought I would at least get some restriction:(

My first fill was 1.5 and did pretty much nothing for me. 4 weeks later he took me up to 2.0 and I was in restriction happyland.

Can you describe what restriction happy land is?

I'm trying to decide if I need a fill. If I eat too fast or take big bites, I do get stuck. However, I do feel like I can eat way too much. It's so frustrating!

In my 5cc band my first fill was 5-17-07 and I got 1cc! No restriction- I can eat anything so far, but I do chew well. I feel full a little longer than before, that's good, but still eating too much. Hoping fill#2 is much better.

GOOD LUCK with your fills!

Wow..I am glad I found this section. I just had my first fill last Tuesday. He put in 1.8cc. I was told to drink liquids all day. Once I flew back home I found I could still eat anything without restriction. I went back to Mexico 2 days later and he put in another 4cc. I tried eating toast and thought I had some restriction, but when I got home I found, once again, that I can pretty much eat anything I want. This is not helping me. I have gained back 6 pounds since going back on food after surgery. I felt I had my sweet spot three weeks after surgery when I started on solid food again. It was wonderful. I ate very little (healthy choices) and felt very comfortable. Now all I feel is hungry all the time. I am going back again this week for another adjustment. I feel I am going the wrong direction.

I think what this band and these forums have shown me regarding fills is that EVERYONE is different. At 1.5cc I had one of the smallest first fills of anyone I've talked with, but after 3 days, I couldn't keep food OR drink down

Another thing I've heard is that sometimes it takes up to 2 weeks for the fill to "kick in" so hopefully yours will tighten up a bit.

Good luck!

I just got my first fill 5/25/07. My doctor gave me 1.2 cc's. He started with 2 cc's and watched as the barium just SIT there. Then I started feeling like I was gonna throw up! So he gradually started pulling out saline. At 1.2 it looked like it was flowing at an acceptable rate. I came home, and ate 5 bites of food, and I was DONE. I'm hoping this is RESTRICTION. We'll see in a couple of days.

One other thing, I'm surprised no one has mentioned...After the first fill, you can expect to loosen up a bit after a few days! There is STILL a small amount of air in your band, even though they purge it. So initially when you get a fill, you may feel REALLY tight, but as the air seeps out, it will get a little less tight. Generally most people have to go back at atleast 4 weeks after the first fill. So, if initially you are VERY tight, and then one day you seem to have NO restriction, it's probably because the air has LEFT.

I have 1.5 in my band . been up to 2 but did not like the restriction. ok at 1.75 now due to surgery I am totally unfilled, wil getrefilled this coming week. Fills are a personal thing and really should not be compared with each other.

I had kidney stones last year and was vomiting for a week . So now before any surgery I get an unfill ,just in case of nausea after surgery. MY doc's ok with it he says that after 2 years you get to know your body and what you can and cannot do.

TO get unfilled was MY idea.

That CAN happen, but like everything else with the band, everyone is different. I was able to eat chips, dip, and some enchilada right after my fill and some salad and very thick Soup 3 days later. By the middle of day 4, my stomach was tighter than a drum and I couldn't even get/keep Water down.

Several people have mentioned that they've had it take up to 2 weeks to feel any restriction in a full.

It all depends on the person/tummy :drum:

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
