Hey guys, I'm still in the beginning stages of this journey (I hope it's ok I jumped over here and am asking this question) I keep going back and forth whether or not this is the right decision for me. I am almost 100% positive it is, but in the back of my head, I wonder if I'll regret this decision. I know that my love for food got me to where I am today but I whimper at the thought of going on vacation and not being able to eat "good" (fat!) I'm also scared because I know there's a high divorce rate after the surgery and I already resent my husband at times when I'm on diets and he's eating pizza or god knows what else. Any advice? Has ANYONE regretted their decision to get the surgery? Thanks guys!

4 weeks out and I don't regret it

I think of myself as a foodie and like to eat out. Originally thought wouldn't go out for the rest of year. Well I was wrong

Been out like 4-5 times. It's all about the choices!

I won't be eating the buffalo wings at BW3 but I will be eating the naked tenders no problem.

I may only enjoy a couple bites of something and not a buffet but that's ok it just makes for better choices for me.

I had ceviche last weekend - well one bite of hubby's and it was octopus. Delish. I enjoyed a really great steamed fish for dinner and he lunch next day. Yay!!

I am a little over 4 months out and for 3 months I so regretted it and went through what was like a post partum depression but even my dr told me I will get past it and I did and now am so very happy with my decision and the changes in my body. I don't mind the smaller portions at all and cannot even imagine eating like I used to. We all adjust in our own ways but I will tell you that I can eat anything I want, if I am craving something, i can have a bite and that will usually do the trick or just remind myself why I made this decision. I would do it over again in a second. Good luck with your decision as only you can make it.

I sometimes miss food, he was my best friend! But then I look in the mirror and see the 80lb transformation four months later, the absence of discrimination, and wearing clothes I've saved for 10 years, I don't regret any of it. It's awkward in social settings because everything social seems to revolve around food and alcohol, but I love the new me. I miss my 'ol pal Ronald McDonald, just like I miss my ex-wife. We had some good times, but they both could care less about me!

food was like the bad boyfriend...he drew you in, but really did not make life better. He lied and chested and made you feel like crap. Click on my profile to see my transformation ... excess food never made me feel this good.

I think everyone goes through that little moment of regretting their decision. It's only natural. Finally reality sets in and u realize that u don't really regret it, u just miss pigging out on everything...which was the reason we got this done in the 1st place! Lol. It will pass....trust me.

I never had any regrets. I was totally ready for the results. I was a closet food addict. Mainly because I felt judged for eating the junk things I craved. Now if I have a craving, I'm confident and don't hide my eating anymore. Also I have A LOT more self control! I'm almost a year out and past my original goal. I'm letting my body decide when I'm done losing weight and when I'm comfortable. If I have a chocolate craving, I can get 1 small one, take a few bites until I'm satisfied and throw the rest away. Before surgery, I could not even imagine being able to do that. It's taken me a lot of retraining my thinking about food to get there!

In the beginning, I was very strict with the diet, which greatly helped me with retaining my brain and kept me on track for weight loss. My fiancé had some junk around the house, but I didn't have any cravings until like 7 months out. I still went out and enjoyed socializing at restaurants, but it was nice that it was about being with people and not about food.

I'm not like everyone. I know many people have some regrets after surgery. Most grow out of them when they start to really see results, some do not. Only you know if you are truly prepared for the food restriction AND the results from having such an amazing weight loss tool!

Read lots of books about different experiences. Look for them on Amazon :-)

I don't regret it but I will say this: I miss eating normally (not overeating). I can eat when I go out, but it is just a few bites. It is quite obvious. I'm young and I date so it's not as if I have a hubby who gets it. It may seem mild, but you'd be surprised how I dread food dates or events.

I don't drink now like I used to and I noticed some folks stopped inviting me to happy hour. I asked them about it and told them that they really should not assume that I don't want to be involved or that I mind since it was my decision not to drink, but it initially hurt a bit. Seriously, social life changes depending on how you once were.

I am happy with the surgery, just getting used to my new social life. :)

I did not tell people, by the way.

i have had pretty much no regrets either. going to my uncle's pizza place last night, and not being able to order his famous stromboli was HARD, but i know that maybe eventually down the road it will be possible. i got baked cod instead, and this morning weighed in 1 lb down. this journey is hard, but you decide. having bariatric is HARD. being fat and unhealthy is HARD. pick your hard...

Never a single regret. Understand that in time you can still have your favorite foods just not a mass amount. It's hard at the beginning but I can promise you putting on a size 2 is more satisfaction than I've ever gotten out of even my favorite food!!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
