Anyone actively prepping for surgery @ Hopkins Bayview?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone else had trouble with communications at Hopkins Bayview recently? They were really responsive early on, but I've been trying to get a simple (but relevant) question answered since April. Rotating emails and phone calls a couple times per week, no one ever answers and none of my messages have been returned. It's definitely making me wonder if I'm going to be able to get the surgery before I have to start all over again. It also makes me really apprehensive about having surgery here now. They've got some of the best surgeons around, but if something happens, am I going to be able to reach them?

I'm finishing up my last two requirements in the next couple of weeks, and I'm just not sure how to proceed...or if I'll even have a choice in the matter since I don't know what's causing the lack of responsiveness.

Can you get the insurance to talk to them? When I had a problem with teh gallbladder, the insurance called and asked what the problem was. Things sure changed ... I got chewed out by the surgeon the next the time I saw him but hey ... at least I got the surgery.

Is it near you? If so just go there and speak to the office manager and tell them that you've tried repeatedly to reach them with no response.

I think you might get some response if you post a new thread with this question on the vsg main area.

Yes, I've had things like what you are talking about. Neuropathies and the like, started less than a year after surgery.

Thanks, I hadn't considered going through the insurance company! My next step was definitely to try to arrange my work schedule to be able to stop by the office and stand there like a brick wall until I get an answer, though.

In the meantime, I signed up for an information session at GBMC. I don't see why I can't port my information over there if they're going to be more responsive.

Truth, I'm sorry you're having a rough time and I hope you find a good answer to your questions - I'm still fighting to GET surgery so I don't have much to contribute there.

Oh yeah I asked the insurance company to call them and find out ((((NOTE HOW AND WHAT I AM SAYING))))

that this problem is costing them $$$ because of my getting sick and if I could get a medical reason why there is a problem, I would appreciate it because I missed it.

Follow the $$$. When you point out how much they've spent already and then more, comorbidities, etc. it makes it worth their while and get follow ups in terms of who to talk to about the situation in the insurance company to followup.

Well, that worked - I mentioned switching hospitals. Got two calls back and an email response today. :D

I'd be careful. Then its all about the money, they want your money for the surgery.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
