OMG....I am totally excited. As I sat here talking to my mom today about surgery being 3 days away....wow It really hit me. Sh*t just got real! Lol I am ready to hyperventilate!

Im panicking cause what if I miss something I need to take? What if I mess this up? What if I cant lose? How is this gonna change my families world? Are they ready for this? Is this really ok to put then thru? I know I have to do this for myself to live a longer healthier life. I just need to know if this "holy crap its happening" feeling is really normal? HELP!

Hi Misty - I am two weeks Post-Op now and had the same feelings you are now having for months! My surgeon was always there to assure me that these feelings are perfectly normal. So, hang in there, you are doing the best thing for your health! For me, I chose the VSG and focus on reducing and hopefully putting diabetes in remission.

As far as family goes, my husband and 12 year old son have dealt with my surgery really well...and to be honest I wasn't sure how my husband was going to handle it. He was definitely anti-surgery. So, if he is helping me come up with "blenderized" meals that taste good, I have to believe yours will be supportive too.

Think positively...this is all planned not a spur of the moment decision.

Kim

It's perfectly normal to feel what you are feeling.

Don't doubt yourself that you're not capable of doing this.

Just take it slowly one step at a time and one stage at a time.

Your surgeon and nutritionist will be there to answer all of your questions.

The people here are going to help you too.

Try doing something fun to try to relax your mind and body.

Take care and best wishes for your surgery.

Misty....Everything you said I experienced just two weeks ago. It is all normal. Even in the recovery room the first thing I though was, "what have I done" And you will succeed and do what you need to do to make it a happen. I am 3 days post op and i'm starting to feel better than 24 hours ago. No real pain, no hunger either at this point. So just stay positive and I cant wait to hear you share your experiences for everyone! You will be a winner too!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
