Starting Again 6 Years Later

Recommended Posts

I got my lapband in 2008. I was not successful and had the Fluid removed in 2011. For several months I went back and forth about getting another fill. My memories of the time when I had Fluid in my band are not good although, if I'm truly honest, nearly every memory I have of food getting stuck involves me eating something that I should not have or that is known to not work well with the band. I finally decided to get a fill a couple of weeks ago and today was the day. I was so nervous. My original surgeon is no longer with the practice so I saw another doc and was quite impressed with him. He was very motivating, didn't make me feel weird or like a failure and I really feel like he is interested and cares about my progress. Not so much with the other doc but I'm one of those patients who can barely talk in the doctors office.

I got about 2 cc's in my 14 cc band. I felt a little shivery inside on my way home but fine otherwise. I just ate a half bowl of cream of potato Soup and I feel kind of full. I really wanted more but I am fighting it. I've been doing really well for the last few weeks of working out and I'm really proud of myself and happy that I have given myself the opportunity to do well with my eating, as well. It is rare for me to do well with both at the same time.

So, that is my lapband story.

Wishing you a good, fresh start. I loved your "feeling shivery inside" description. Fills don't bother me physically, but the idea of someone messing around with something inside me makes me "feel shivery" too!

Good for you for dedicating yourself to making your band work for you.

Having a good doctor is golden. X fingers this work for you this time? The lifestyle change can be overwhelming and I know years ago we weren't prepped as well as we should have been.

I think my stomach was actually in a little bit of shock - the band had been empty since 2011. By the end of the day I started recognizing the feeling as similar to when I had the surgery. I definitely don't recall that from previous fills but both me and the band are older now.

Thanks for the well wishes!

That was wonderful! Thanks! I learned a lot! I have been following the rules for the most part but there were things I was not sure about like drinking with the meal being OK. Alcohol in moderation is OK. I love the 8 Golden rules!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
