Gastric band surgery 25th june 2014 post op help needed

Recommended Posts

Hi all :) I had my surgery on the 25th June... I am finding it really hard sleeping at night as the port feels like it's poking right out. I wondered if this is always going to feel like this or will the lump go after a while. Also I'm eating normally already. I started on liquids and now back to eating solids. Am eating healthy. My dietician said to move on to solids when feel ready. But most people tend to be on liquids for so long! X

I am 3 months out and I still feel my port when I lay on my left side only. Sometime I have to move because it is bothersome if I lay in it wrong.

I stopped feeling mine at about 4 months. It still protrudes but the sensitivity of the incision finally went away. 2.5 years out and it's just there, no feeling unless I happen to try to use it to balance a couch :(

Maybe an ice pack would help. I don't notice my port at all now but don't recall when that happened. As for return to normal eating, protocols vary greatly. My surgeon did not call for the length of time on liquids that many have. Same with fills -- some people do liquids for a few days or a week while I am able to just go back to whatever feels comfortable. I just follow whatever my own doctor instructs.

You will find through your journey, especially being on here & other support sites, everyone's doctor is different about almost EVERYTHING! What to eat & not eat; carbonated drinks ok with some docs & not others; procedures for fills & follow ups are different...just do whatever YOUR doc says! If your doc says solids are ok, go for it & listen to your body!!! My doc was a bit more relaxed than some docs I read about on here as far as post-op restrictions. I think I was eating solids within a week or two.

I don't remember when I initially stopped being bothered by my port, but when I got close to my goal weight, after losing about 75 pounds, I had to have my port changed to a low profile port because it stuck out & was hurting me when I'd do sit ups or lay on my stomach. I've had the low profile port for a year & a half & work abs several days a week & sleep any way I want & it doesn't bother me at all! You might want to ask which port you have so you know if switching later is an option for you if you're bothered by it later. I'm sure the discomfort will go away as you heal....that area is ultra sensitive right now & will get better as it heals & your mind won't be so preoccupied with it too.

Good luck on your journey!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
