I am at day 6 post op. Have been drinking 48oz of Water and my three shakes plus the two tablespoons of whatever I am allowed with each meal. I am walking and doing everything I am supposed to do yet i am craving sweets, And I am hungry. Is this normal? I feel like I could eat just about anything. The only thing stopping me is knowing how sick I would get if I even attempted to go off the liquid diet. Any suggestions? What is wrong with me.

I get hungry too, they said there is a % of people who will still get hungry. Just be mindful, I am 2 months out, what helped me early on was to drink more Water and have Jello, just chew it really good and you will be fine. trick your mind!

I am a year out on July 11th. I was hungry right from the beginning. What you will find is it is a lot of head hunger. This will get easier the farther you are out. When you start eating more of the solid food you will see you will take 2 or 3 bites and be done. In the early days you do Soups and soft food. It is when you get to solid food you will see it is way easier to get full. I still have hunger. When I eat then about 2.5 hours to 3 hours I am ready to eat again but when I do I eat less than a cup of good Protein and veggies or a Protein shake or bar and I am done. It get's easier. Keep drinking the Water. It will help.

I am three weeks post-op and have experienced a lot of head hunger and some actual physical hunger.

Head Hunger is so easy to misinterpret as physical, but it's not. Up until now you've never had to differentiate between the two...you felt one and ate food wether it was true hunger or not. As a result you've trained your brain to perceive your emotional hunger as the real thing.

However, you will feel some real hunger too. My doc said it's silly to tell people they won't feel hunger anymore. If your belly is empty and you haven't eaten in several hours...you will feel hunger. However, as far as my experiences go it doesn't feel the same as it used to. One, it takes a lot longer for me to actually get hungry. Before surgery I would think to myself "Huh, I haven't eaten in a couple of hours...I'm hungry!" It was like the thought of hunger was the signal for my body to become hungry. Now it's more like "Oh my God, why do I feel so empty and hungry? Ohhh, it's because I actually AM hungry!" It's hard to explain, but once you start being able to identify head hunger vs. the real thing you will see what I mean.

The other thing is, it does get better. At first your body is detoxing all of the crap food you used to eat and it's causing cravings. After about two weeks of no bad food you loose your taste for it. The body doesn't crave it anymore. Now again...there is a difference between craving food in your head vs. in your body. You will have to start really observing yourself and your emotions to get a grip on head vs. real hunger and cravings.

This WLS journey is 10% physical and 90% mental.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
