Is anyone eating mashed rice or potatoe on puree stage?

Recommended Posts

I ate neither on puree stage. I'm on soft foods now, and I had 1 tablespoon of mashed potato one night...but at this point, I barely eat enough to get my Protein in so I really try to not eat anything that doesn't have protein.

I was told by my NUT, not to eat rice or mashed potatoes. The first thing I had was mashed potatoes and they were yummy.

Then I ate refried Beans.

But I was told to stay away from those types of carbs because you will not maximize your potential for weight loss.

During the puree stage, I had cream of chicken Soup, cream of mushroom and having it blenderized.

I know it is tempting, but try to avoid those two fer sure!

Rice will swell up in your tummy after eating it, so keep that one to a minimum

I have a hard enough time getting my Protein and Water in to worry about taking in any carbs of any kind. I'm 4 weeks out now and get to have SOFT FOODS this week!!!! YAY!

You said nothing 'satisfies' you but you feel full? That sounds like head hunger and not real hunger. Try pureeing some more substantial things... I LOVE refried Beans. And, another trick my nutritionist told me -- with the plain, fat free Greek yogurt, mix some sugar-free Jello in there. Gives you a little taste of the fruit without adding any sugars or carbs.

My dietitian says potatoes are ok, regular and sweet. I can eat half a small baked potato (mashed up really good) with no problem.

My Nut gave me the OK for potatoes, so a couple of times I've eaten about 1/3 of a potato mashed with some cottage cheese. However, I will say that the day after I enjoy this treat, I seem to be hungrier than usual. Not sure if its all psychological or what but I think I will stay away from the 'taters for a while ;)

i am allowed mashed potatoes with cheese (for some protein) on my puree phase which begins in 9 days. no rice though. my nut was insistant that rice be avoided for at least 6 months and then, only have about 1 tbsp for a serving.

I'm supposed to avoid mashed potatoes forever , according to my NUT. I have tried them though. A few spoonfuls is all I can do or my tummy starts to.cramp. I am 9 months post op.

I tried instant mashed potatoes earlier this week. I put a full scoop of iso pure unflavored Protein powder which thined them out quite a bit. I put a small amount tarragon, garlic salt and pepper . They were amazing. By day three I ate about 3/4th of a cup with no ill side effects. I think the thin consistency help digest things quicker.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
