Have lost only 13 pounds one week after surgery. It's Wednesday today and the weight is same since Sunday :( is it normal.

Got my surgery done 14th June and was 174 lbs and on Sunday 22nd June until now am 161 lbs.

Does that mean now it will be super slow? The weight loss??

Be happy. I don't want to lose too fast because I don't want my skin hanging off. Psychologically, its almost as bad as being fat. Maybe slow weight loss is a gift. I hope you keep losing steadily. You started out weighing 174. I will be happy when I get to 174. If you are exercising & gaining muscle, you won't see a dramatic weight loss. Maybe if you measure you'll see that you lost inches. Good luck.

How about taking the only out of that sentence and maybe add a exclamation mark at the end. "I lost 13 pounds in one week after surgery!" This is pretty amazing. How many weeks in your life were you able to make that statement? Try to enjoy the journey.

The speed at which you lose depends on many factors, but try not to compare with other people.

Good Luck!

13 lbs in one week is amazing imo. I think you are doing awesome. Keep doing what you are doing and you will continue to lose.

13 lbs. in a week is fantastic! My doctor told me that the typical loss will be about 2 pounds a week going forward.

What I wouldn't give to lose 13 pounds in a week ... a single week! That said, what were your expectations? Were you comparing yourself to someone who weighs/weighed a lot more than you? I would hope, being over 300 pounds that I would be able to lose 5 or 6 pounds in a week. I would be over the top at 13.

I guess it all just depends on your expectations.

Good luck in your journey.

13 pounds one week after surgery.

@@ssbills

some/many NEWBIES "might" think they are gonna lose a million lbs/or so :o in a week!!!

not gonna happen

some/many times people have to convince a newbie, that a smaller weight loss is ok right after surgery

in your case - 13 lbs is a wonderful loss

would i lie to you??

but then again ANY weight loss is a good start

but as others have said...........

13 lbs is great!!!!

next week you "might" not lose that much

don't be upset!!!!

you/we./me didn't gain the weight overnight

its not gonna come off overnight either :(

but it WILL come off

"God Grant Me Patience, Just Hurry Up About It!!" :D

have a great week

keep up the good work :)

kathy

congrats

I stalled for 2 weeks after the second week. Them picked back up again. I heard that 3-4 week stall gets almost everyone. Now I am averaging 6 lbs a week.

I am three weeks post op and am gaining weight I don't understand! I'm not even eating 800 calories. I just started a few semi solid things. I just don't get it. How is this possible. Before surgery I would've taken in 3000+ calories and stayed the same. I refuse to fail again. I need suggestions. Please feel free to help.

Really??? That's scary. This is my third week and I'm trying to eat solids but can't eat a lot and still am not losing just the same.

It's a great one week loss! Whenever I see people with huge weight losses, If I look at their page I will notice they are a lot heavier than I am or was and the weight comes off a lot faster the bigger they are or so it seems to me. Try not to compare. You are still swollen and in recovery

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
