Do you think your life would have been better or worse without WLS?

Recommended Posts

Not so sure I would be here today if it wasn't for WLS. 488lbs on a 5'6 frame was pretty rough. My calf muscles got so sore I could only do 10 minutes at a time on my feet. Even with the elevator I had a rough time getting to my office on a daily basis. My overall state of mind was in a pretty bad place as well and if it weren't for my wife I am not sure I would of made it. I did however and luck out that I didn't get high blood pressure or diabetes and such. I had severe sleep apnea but overall pretty healthy for such a large man.

I know for a fact I lucked out and I truly believe I was walking the line....

As for today...my work day is now over and I am heading out for a ride on the kayak!

Cheers...

Bypass surgery was the greatest gift I gave myself.

I once was a size 34/36 and 350 lbs back in 2006. Slowly over a seven year period I lost some of that weight but I still needed to do something or I'm sure I would have gotten back up there again.

I had diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, high cholesterol and a few other things that came with being big.

I finally made up my mind last year to take care of me.

I no longer have those health problems.

This surgery helped me be able to move around better even though I have fibromyalgia, osteo arthritis, stenosis of the spine, RSD. I'm still in pain but not as much with less of me. I don't have to use a cane any more to get around and I don't have to use the electric carts in stores any more.

So yes I have a better life because of this surgery.

I thank God every day for the lap band, I know i would be heavier and more misreable than I was. If i had been able to lose weight on Weight Watchers I would have skipped the lap band, but 12 lbs lost on a year of WW was' nt cutting it, so 2.5 years ago, the band was a last resort, and im VERY happy about it ! Just this morning I had a follow up visit with my surgeon, he told me I have done everything right as far as following his directions, and he was very pleased, as am I !!!! Im healthy and happy , and getting stronger every day ! Thank you Lap Band ! !!!

Without my sleeve, I would have been dead soon, or in a nursing home wishing I was. I had alrady had both knees replaced, many spinal issues, and a stroke that forced me into early retirement. All of my numbers were bad, and my weight was skyrocketing exponentially in spite of my best efforts. I was developing all of the co-morbidities that caused the early death of many of my relatives. I had asked my primary about a lap-band, and when I went to the bariatric clinic, the staff introduced me to the possibility of a sleeve. I had never heard of that procedure. The sleeve (Miss Tummy) saved my life. I am battling my way to goal, but I don't mind, because I am still alive to even face the battle.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
