So I had it in my head that my surgery would end up being in Sept given my, insurance requirements for supervised dieting. I just completed everything I need to do and the docs office tells me they will prolly submit this month and I would prolly be able to have surgery as soon as next month. Now I called and they are back tracking. I was sooo excited and now they are unsure when they will submit. Wtf- this is the second time they messed and I'm getting frustrated. Do they even realize I wanted this yesterday. I have worked so hard to do everything I have to and they keep playing with my emotions. Uggh feeling depressed. My husband doesn't get it..he says who cares..it will happen. He doesn't understand how uncomfortable it is being extremely overweight in the summer! End of rant

That's ridiculous that they are playing around with this.

If it was me I would check with them often to find out if they did it or not.

I might even talk to the office manager or the physicians assistant and ask why there is a delay in them submitting the paperwork.

You tell them that you were promised a speedy submission of it and now you're being told that it will be sometime this month and that that's unacceptable.

You were also told that surgery would be next month and now they don't know when.

I'm sorry you might have already done all of this and I'm preaching to you. I just dislike hearing of people being mistreated.

Good luck and best wishes.

Omg thank you. Finally someone understands! I tell my husband and he's like a deer in headlights. What they are doing is wrong and I do feel mistreated...until you said that I never really thought about that word but that is exactly how I feel. IM just so upset.

I get your disappointed as I would be as well. But don't lose sight that they may simply have made a mistake in reference to insurance requirements. However if they did misspeak the professional thing would be for them to acknowledge it.

I understand a little how you're feeling as my official approval didn't come in until 3 days before surgery. I was nauseous just thinking it might get delayed even a week.

For me, I found that when I made the decision to have surgery, my weight started bothering me WAY more than it did before that. I was much more self-conscious than I had been and just felt so ugly.

There is a big emotional component to waiting for the surgery. Just try to calm yourself, do what you need to feel like your voice is heard about the situation and do what feels right to you (confronting the office or not). But, realize too, this is a small bump in the road compared to the rest of your life.

Best wishes!

I know just how you feel!! I waited my 6 months and turned in everything to my doctor on 5/9. They didn't even submit anything until 5/23! I was finally approved on 6/19 and was told they would call me the 20th to schedule. I am still waiting to get on the schedule. I was really hoping to already have this done as my sister is due to have her first baby 7/1. Now I have to wait and schedule in the middle of July so I can make sure I am not having surgery while she is giving birth! Very stressful! When you do all you're told to and jump through all the hoops, you want it done! Don't give up, it will happen!! :)

Do they even realize I wanted this yesterday.

I'm pretty sure they do. I've noticed from people watching at my surgeon's office. (the bariatric patients have a separate waiting area) that everyone seems pretty high strung and anxious. My program does about 400 surgeries a year. Thats a lot of nail biting patients

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.

Three months and four days ago... I was in Costa Rica having a life changing surgery! Yesterday we had a followup visit with Dr. Esmeral via video chat and this morning my middle number changed.  I'm down 47lbs and two pants sizes. I can wear a Large tshirt for the first time in like... 14 years! Woot!! Everything is going great. I have zero regrets. I went down to the riverwalk with a friend and walked 2 miles on Monday without even getting fatigued. And no more snoring or chugging pickle juice for crazy leg cramps! I need to go to the gym more... I'm making new shirts next week so that will motivate me. LOL But I'm also just not as TIRED all the time! I have a LONG way to go...but seeing the progress on the scales and in the mirror is a huge motivator!! Thank you all for cheering me on and supporting me!!
