I had my surgery May 6. And it is june 10th and i've only lost 29 pounds. I feel like its not enough. Is it me? I cannot tolerate Protein Shakes anymore so i try to eat thinga that are high in Protein. But in the mean time maybe I forgot about the calorie content. Ughh. I feel so down on myself!!!

29 Pounds In A Month Is Amazing! You are loosing nearly a pound a day!! We all lose at different rates, but I would imagine your clinic would be thrilled with that kind of progress. As to the Protein, the name of the game at this stage is maximum Protein grams for fewest number of calories. Follow your clinic's guidelines - they vary considerably from clinic to clinic - but mine for the first three months was 50 grams of protein every day. If you can't tolerate the shakes, look into the powders and add them to your high protein, low calorie, food choices. I am approaching a year post surgery and I still find it important to get one shake in every day to meet my protein goals and stay under my calorie limit.

The first few months are really a 'honeymoon' period of sorts. Most people do no feel hunger, or at least not as badly as they did pre surgery. You want to take advantage of this window to maximize you weight loss because it will become more difficult with time. Not impossible though, like I said, I am approaching a year, and the scale is still moving for me. But the loss has slowed considerably!

Good Luck!

Carol

29 lbs in 5 weeks is amazing!! - that's about 6 lbs a week - when did you ever lose weight that quickly before? I'm only averaging around 4 lbs a week and I'm delighted with that. Think positive - this surgery is a tool, not a magic bullet. Depending on your starting weight and goals, it may take close to a year to lose all the weight.

Don't get down on yourself - counting calories is not my main goal anymore. If I eat the correct quantity (no more than 1 cup at my stage) of the right foods (protein, fruits and veggies), then the calories take care of themselves. I use a tracking app called MyFitnessPal which I love. You might want to start using that - it has an amazing data base of lots of foods so it can tell you how much protein, fat, carbs etc you've consumed.

What phase are you in? (pureed food, soft foods?) I also got tired of the Protein Shakes but found I love scrambled eggs, cottage cheese and fish (all mashed in the puree phase). Talk to your nutritionist about ideas and recipes etc

Good luck!

Thank you so much for everyones support. I will try to add Protein powder to my yogurt and or pudding. Not sure about my eggs. Lol.

My starting weight was 331 day of surgery. I am now 302. And i am 5 '8 tall girl. I have been a sports playing and very competitive individual my whole life. So I have let depression my my life events take control of my life and i ate mg feelings away. Now that i had this surgery i am anxious to lose. To get my happiness back and get back to playing basketball. So i am hard on myself. I understand its not a magic pill. But its part of my impatient nature to want to see results right away. Lol. I will not give up, the old me is pushing its way out.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
