I stand corrected. I talked to my surgeon's on-staff nutritionist and I will be participating in a low-fat diet 2 weeks prior to surgery. Sboulie, can you pm your diet plan?

And let's face it, I'm thinking we all have fatty livers. Please for the sake of peace of mind I would do a week of preop and fasting the day before surgery. If anyone wants an example PM me and I can send you my preop. It is sooo worth doing and not impossible to follow

I was approved by Cigna on Friday and I now have a confirmed surgery date of July 21st. I was hoping it could be sooner but the earliest date available for an endoscopy was July 15th. I have waited this long so I guess need to be patient a little longer!

I was approved for surgery last Thursday & am scheduled for July 11th (I start my liquid diet on 7/5).

I would definitely be interested in joining the Facebook group once it's secret too :) I'm not sharing what I'm doing with more than a handful of people & I don't want anyone to be able to see I'm a member.

Hi, all! I started my liquid pre-op diet today (a day early) and I'm surprised at how well I'm doing, and then again, it's harder than I thought. I was putting dinner together for my family and kept reaching for a piece of bread or a baby carrot or thinking about chips and salsa later tonight and then.. ummmm.... NO.

This is weird.

Just got my date for the 9th of July!!!!! So I set my countdown clock again..... 22 days from now.

I am going on a low carb diet tomorrow. I'll start with one Protein shake for the first week. The rest Protein and veggies. The next week I'll see if i can do two shakes. I want to get over the carb flu if I get it and get rid of the Water weight. I want to maximize my honeymoon stage after surgery as much as possible.

Plus I'm not going to lie..... I've been eating like sh!t for a while. I need to get back on track and get my act together. It would behoove me to start now than when I'm trying to heal from surgery.

Hi everyone, JULY 7...

I am so excited to find this support group.. I am selfpay..

I have also decided not to share this with friends or family.. My daughter and one good friend are the only people that know... I'm even considering telling those who will know something is going on that I'm having gallbladder surgery. Lol.. I just don't want to share with anyone yet..

Meet with my Dr. this Thursday , June 19... Will get my protien drink options.. He does 2 weeks protien drinks.. Start liquid diet June 23. I meet with nutritionalist June 27..

This has been a fast journey and I am excited, scared, but most of all can't wait for my new healthy life..

My first meeting with my surgeon he sat down and really talked to me for a long time, We were talking about the diet and he said, I want you to know this 2 week protien is doable.. I decided that I needed to know if I was asking to much of my patients, so I did it myself ... He is a young slim man.. That just really made me have so much faith that he is a caring DR. Health is his main focus...

Feel like this forum has taught me so much.. Love hearing all of your stories...

I am the same. I decided to do the surgery the second tuesday of May after a seminar. First appt. May 28. Sleeve same day! July 7. Self-pay is a quick route but it is kind of scary. I can't imagine doing 6 months of prep for this...I think I would go nuts.

Good luck!

Dexter 118, I also can't imagine having to wait.. Originally when I went to the seminar, it was with the intention of having the lapband.. But the Dr. was definitely pro sleeve, but after hearing pros and cons of both.. Had changed my mind before it was over...he is my Dr. now..

choosinghealth - I went in thinking about a bypass but ended up choosing the sleeve. I have a lot of weight to lose and I met someone there that was my size and had the sleeve. He had lost 265 pounds in 18 months! Talk about inspiration. I also like that the GI tract is kept intact. Isn't it great to trust your doc?

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
