What do you miss most after Weight Loss Surgery?

Recommended Posts

I went to the informational seminar the other night, and they mentioned you can never have soda. Ever ever again! I'm actually doubting my decisions because I love soda so much... :( He said that probably 90% of his patients that gain weight back admit to soda use. That's not worth it to me, but... still... :(

What do you miss most now that you've had surgery done? Is it possible to live life without soda? What else are you living without that you truly miss?

I miss nothing. No food is more important than my health.

I kind of miss my sweet tooth. After surgery and having drank those Protein shakes, I don't handle sweet things very well. I can barely tolerate a shake - drink it because I have to but too sweet.

I admit that I miss champagne. I didn't drink it all that often, but it's a big part of family celebrations. I'm allowed to have an occasional glass, but when I tried a couple of sips over Christmas, it felt weird and just didn't taste like it used to, so I haven't tried it again. I may try it next month when I visit my parents and see if anything has changed.

I also miss being able to sip a glass of wine with dinner -- again, I rarely did it, just when out at nice restaurants or visiting my parents (who are great cooks with an extensive wine cellar). I'm allowed to have wine on my program, just no drinking with meals. There was something lovely about a really good wine correctly paired with a delicious dinner. I'm not really that interested in wine on its own so I just don't drink it anymore.

I realize these two "I miss" statements make me sound like someone with a drinking problem! The thing is, I am sure I averaged less than one alcoholic drink per month before my sleeve. I never bought alcohol on my own, just had it when I visited my parents a few times each year. But I guess I really do miss it for those few visits!

That said, I would not trade my sleeve and my weight loss for all the champagne and great pinot noir in the world! It's a tiny little thing to give up to have a whole new life.

Used to be I was a soda guzzler, too, but looking back, I am sure that was the major cause of my gastric reflux and swollen belly. So, do I miss it? Not so much. I missed bread, bun, cake, Pasta, etc...until I read Wheat Belly. Everything else has just been a matter of adjustments. Really, food doesn't taste the same anymore, and everthing doesn't have to be sweet or salty.

I miss sausage. One bite made me barf. I loved my encased meats. LOL.

But I'll tell you what I don't miss - diabetes. My blood sugar has been normal every day since my sleeve. I don't miss feeling so full from over eating that I'm miserable.

Not a thing!!! Nothing and I do mean NOTHING is worth the miserable hell I lived in before getting this wonderful tool!! I was a soda drinking fool, I would have 6-8 cans of soda a day and quit cold turkey because I reached the point mentally that enough was enough and I was done and I can honestly say I don't miss it one bit! I've gained my life back and that's worth giving up whatever is necessary.

I was a diet soda addict since I was a child. I really thought that it was going to be a problem for me. It wasn't. Not at all. Get out your crayons and color me shocked!

For the first time in two decades I am not on a diet or about to go on a diet. I was very restrictive and feel so liberated now. I am just living. I don't miss anything because I am not missing out on anything. Gone are the days of disallowing whole food groups or planning out diet menus. I eat when I'm hungry and -- here's the key -- I don't eat when I'm not hungry. It's working!

I gave up soda and don't regret my decision living for my children is more important than any soda. I can't wait for my surgery at all :)

I'm lucky since I've never been a soda drinker. Sure I've had some but I don't have to have any everyday or even every month. Since my sleeve I miss being able to eat more. But I don't miss it that much. It's still quite shocking to me since I feel so normal now that I've healed. I also miss being able to drink 32 oz of Water in one sitting. I'm still so thirsty! I just can't drink enough at one time. I gotta go now....have to go drink my 4-6 oz of water now. :-)

I do miss diet soda and I do have like a few sips here and there when I am out with my family but I don't have much cause it hurts. I dont deprived myself from anything but I do control my intake. One thing for sure my appetite and cravings have diminished so for now I just stick to what I can tolerate like eggs, cheese, soy milk, ground meats, fish, Peanut Butter, Protein Shakes, yogurt and drink lots and lots of Water. I do have ice cream like weight watchers stuff once in a while or had a small scoop of coffee ice cream from my moms bowl. For me this surgery is a tool to lose weight, get rid of old habits, establish new good habits...that's the idea.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks
